  1. It is raining again near Thapae Gate. I hope this means it is going to rain a lot during hot season.

Go back to page 48 (or 46) of this thread. We had the same this time last year, & look how that turned out sick.gif

It did rain more often during hot season last year than normal, but the year before was even better (and cooler).

What we had the year before was wonderful, but the folk downstream might disagree laugh.png

But the floods further south were simply water mismanagement.

  3. It's death-defying to try and read all the signage while driving, but that particular sign (simply requiring a stop and look before turning on red) is pretty easy to spot.

It's small, rectangular, and text-only. While the Thai writing goes on too long for anyone who's not literate, there's a clue stuck on the end, and that's all I look for:

    ไฟ.

Maybe that's why you are required to stop 1st, so you can read the bloody sign.

You need to stop so you have a look around the corner for "the rozzers" wink.png

  4. Also how much for a good set of tyres for a toyota pick up and an allignment .any ideas cheers

    What size tyres?

    Toyota hillux mighty x 195/14

You're missing the middle number eg 195/60/14

Try this website for B-quick key in your tyre sizes & get a quote. Shop around to get a better price, but at least this site gives you an idea. If you buy a set of 4, you should get free wheel alignment, balancing & wheel rotation every 10,000 km.

  5. Yes, no surprises. Surveying the area this afternoon (about 16:00 - 16:30), I found mixed driver reaction to the changes on the first day of the experiment. All in all, things seemed to be moving fairly smoothly except for the usual delays in all directions at the Rimping intersection. No particular increase in traffic on Sirimangkalajan, north or south, was noted. Adherence to the one-way changes on sois between Nimenhamen and Sirimangkalajan varied. There was still some wrong-way traffic, but not a lot evident. I saw no traffic police in the area, as maybe promised, to assist confused motorists. The real measure of success would probably be better gauged after the cafe crowd arrives past 18:30 on the east-west sois.

Regardless, the traffic pressure at the Rimping intersection must necessarily continue and increase until there is a massive reconstruction of roads. This has to be be among the worst traffic intersections in the Asia, if not the world!

As NancyL has pointed out: not Rimping, the market. Rincome Junction, of course. But this could be a promising start of a new urban rumor! biggrin.png

Surely a Harrods Foodhall would be more appropriate for NH area smile.png

  6. Indeed there is at least one Thai guy that has a similar rig to yours (but not nearly as large or high tech as yours) that shows up at events around town. His rig at times flies quite low over the crowd and is a little annoying as the propellers sound like giant mosquitoes buzzing overhead. Another thing that is annoying is when he remotely turns on the light and pans, tilts, whatever around the crowd.

On the beach, Koh Chang, last year, a very quiet beach, some idiot thought it was cool to fly his r/c plane low over the people paddling close to the shore. Annoying 'cos the kids were playing & you never know when he might lose control. Well, the batteries died sooner than he expected & his plane ended up in the sea. Hilarious cheesy.gif

  7. Brought it home with a new wash today after bringing it home in a rain storm......post-67352-0-04383700-1359628582_thumb.jpost-67352-0-43407100-1359628622_thumb.j

You gonna wash it everyday? biggrin.png

btw the tyres are dirty laugh.png

If it rains everyday then I guess I will have too.....sad.png

If you saw our soi you would think me very lucky to get home with only the tires dirty tongue.png

I've got a 250m dirt road to drive down to reach our house. If it rains it's muddy. If it's dry, it's dusty. And the road leading to our trail is dusty as hell. Had the truck 5 months, washed it twice. Not worth it. But it's not white, but gunmetal blue. but I know the feeling, brand new truck, don't want to lose that shine smile.png

  8. So happy for the rain it has cleared the haze. So now it can start building up again but not as bad as before.

Didn't we have rain this time last year? And last year was pretty bad smog wise sick.gif

  9. If you see a printed sign hanging off the post near the traffic light.

It almost certainly says "No left turn on red light".

Forget rolling stops, or any other such nonsense.

dam_n, I always thought those blue signs said that it was OK to turn left on a red there! Well it's always better to be lucky than smart.

    When in Rome.....

But when in Thailand, don't - they're most likely doing it wrong whistling.gif
