  1. Great info on the bamboo poles prices.  Are you planning to treat the bamboo with anything to preserve them?  Mind you, it'll be cheaper to replace than pay for the wood preservative, & less chemicals near your veg.  Post a pic of your finished raised bed.

Now you'll be needing some soil......

  2. You could try the old Bears Den now reincarnated as PizzaMania located just a little way up stream from the Rimping Condo.

Quiet with ice cold beers; the food is ok and for somewhere to sit almost in the centre of town it works for me (sometimes).

I loved the Bear's Den. It was just a pity that few customers led to its closure. The Montri is one I've seen and heard about and will try soon.

Is that the place with the huge billboards blocking the view of the river?  That's my memory of walking by one Loy Kratong festival a few years back.  If so, hardly has a riverside atmosphere.

  3. Thanks MESmith! Yes, they are just up the road from me, Im just being ki neow, because as you and I know, if we jump the middleman everything is much cheaper! They are not too expensive, will pop back today, thanks!

You always drive up into the jungle with a machete, & literally, cut out the middleman  :)

Or, maybe plant your own, then you have a renewable supply.  That's what I do.  Don't do it to save money, but because I love the look of bamboo.  Then whenever I need some, just harvest a few pieces.

  4. Any luck finding a bamboo dealer?

Needed for making a structure in my garden... the big poles are what i need

    tia

Have you tried the bamboo merchant on CM-Lamphun rd, south of the ring road with Global House on.  If he doesn't stock the size you want, he may be able to get it from his suppliers.  As you head towards Saraphi, he's on the left.

  5. Try camping out of the back of a truck in summer on the Red Sea coastal plain (not beach) of Saudi Arabia for a few nights.  Sleeping on a camp bed in a pool of sweat, hoping, praying for a slight breeze......

It's warm here, but not even AC needed unless you live in a concrete box, or if you're really tough, a cardboard box in t'middle of road......  :)

  6. 40-50K typically. You'd negotiate in advance though.

    Wrong. The package is 30K.

    3 nights.

Wait till you get the bill, there are extras not covered under the package, which makes the word 'package' a bit silly. Also, I believe 30K is for a 'natural' birth, not C-section?

6 yrs ago, we were quoted a package price 25k for c-section.  That's what we paid.  2 yrs ago, they didn't offer a package, but estimate was around 50k for same deal.  We went elsewhere.  Sounds like Ram is offering packages again.  Congrats to OP.

  7.  Got some mature coconut trees & other large palms (crane needed) for about 1000bt each, past Mae On.

Other very large trees upto 10,000.  They have more expensive ones but out of my price range.  Great day for the kids when the big trucks with crane arrive to deliver  :)

Might I ask if they plant these mature trees or only deliver?

They plant them.  You need a crane to lift them.  The palms, a few guys could probably manhandle into position, but the bigger trees would be impossible.  Their trucks have a crane mounted behind the cab.  So make sure for the bigger trees, the truck can get close enough.

  8. Emmmmm... wrong. OP is wrong, most people above also talking from non-oral-orify.

You can't park there during rush hour. 3pm until 6pm I believe.

(And at the Red & White you can of course never park there, that's not under debate)

    Next. :)

Op was having lunch today, & posted before 3pm......

  9. For bigger, more mature items, KT is pricey, but for saplings, small shrubs etc, the savings wont be much elsewhere, unless you're buying a forest.  Mature trees - head out past hot springs, past Mae On as mentioned earlier.  Fruit trees don't transplant easily, as the tap root needs to be protected.  Got some mature coconut trees & other large palms (crane needed) for about 1000bt each, past Mae On.  Other very large trees upto 10,000.  They have more expensive ones but out of my price range.  Great day for the kids when the big trucks with crane arrive to deliver  :)

  10. What's next? Speed cameras? Parking meters and traffic wardens? Only a matter of time, keep tuned in to this channel.

Speed traps already out there!!  5 baht parking ticket sellers around Warorat market, too.

  11. Kamthieng is where we go for small plants and shrubs,

for large trees, palms etc there are places dotted on/around the ring rds

I'll be looking for mango trees soon. And suggestions please on where to locate them?

    Thanks.

Kamthieng market stocks saplings for most fruit trees grown here.

  12. Global House gets my vote for best DIY store in Chiang Mai.  Once, I even heard them play Elvis Costello over the in store PA.  AND the staff don't follow you around like lost puppies  :)  The Home Pro next to BigC on Hangdong Rd seems to carry a wider range of stock than the one at Carrefour.  They even have a shiny red ride on mower in stock.  I wonder if they stock spare parts for it?

  13. A good place for lawn mower servicing is Montri, the last shop on the left, on the superhighway frontage road before the Chotana intersection, heading from Mae Jo turnoff.  Another good shop to service your mower is on the east side of the river, north of Rimping Condo, on a bend in the road.  Can't remember name of this shop, but there are tractors & trailers parked outside.  Can't miss it really.

  14. I think it would be dishonest not to point out an obvious error like the one mentioned above. Taking something without properly paying for it is a form of stealing. I don't think it is anything worth bragging about. On the contrary, it's shameful.

How is the OP being dishonest or stealing?  He pointed out he'd been overcharged for the item.  It's Carrefour's policy to give you the item for free if their tills ring up the wrong price.   At check out, you need to watch all the prices being rung up, because they do occasionally unintentionally overcharge.  It's their policy & it keeps them on their toes.  It's bad for them if they get a reputation for overcharging.  Once you've pointed out the error, the item is yours for free.   It's not a case of getting the price corrected at the till, they give it to you.

oops, posting at same time as BWpattaya....

  15. Yes we are.

Priceless confided to me in a private e-mail that he's getting a bit tired of replying to bar-stool blabbermouths' fantasies in response to straight facts.. Can't really blame him. :D

I've had it up to my tits with the denials & bs from certain members, & today, my non-thai neighbour fires up his garden.  PLONKER!!!!!!!!!  My wife called the orbator, but they just said........... I've <deleted> had enuf.  Time to head down Chiang Moi rd & enquire about a shooter.......

ok, that last sentence was an exaggeration born out of frustration, incase people think there's a psycho on the loose :D  BUT, I have had enough of the <deleted> burning!!!!!! :D

  17. Chiang mai is quite a small town.  Luckily the pollution caused by all the burning outside the city has no effect on the residents.  Time to sell up & move into the city where the air is pure.  Can someone please tell me & all the other residents where this cut off is.
