  1. Took our 2 yr old to Christian Clinic on CM - Lamphun Rd yesterday.  Location just south of Gwailor Barracks.   The clinic specializes in dermatology, run by the McKean people, (Leper Hospital, south of the city).  Price for consultation 50bt.  Waiting time - as long as it took to register, 2 to 3 minutes.  Doctor spoke very good English.

    Sawasdee Khrup, Khun MESmith,

We're pretty sure you must be referring to the Kawila military barracks (Gwalior is one of the old "princely states" of India), and the clinic you are speaking of is on Ko Klang (sometimes transliterated 'Kaw Klang') road which splits to the right from the old Chiang Mai - Lamphun highway just after the Talat Nong Hoi market on the left.

However, if that's not correct, and the facility you speak of is much further south ... perhaps past the intersection of the old Chiang Mai - Lamphun highway and the first ring road ... could you clarify ?

    thanks, ~o:37;

You're correct, got my Gwailor mixed up with my Kawila.   But the location is almost immediately south of the barracks, set back from the road with "in" & "out" gates for cars, green & white sign in Thai..  Google for Christian clinic Chiang Mai turns up results for this location on CM Lamphun Rd.  Opening hrs 8.00 to 16.00 Mon Fri, shorter hrs weekend & hols.

  3. Just drove the back roads from Maejo to Doi Saket. The amount of ruin off I saw going into the main irrigation canal that comes from Kuang Reservoir was on real. Like I said on another post this morning we have gone above are YTD rainfall average finally 777.1 mm YTD and average is 761.4 mm rain.

Kuang River is pretty high, south of Hwy1317

  4. Hope the reservoirs are getting this.

Kuang reservoir yesterday.   Not full by a long way, but seems higher than I remember a few years ago at the end of wet season.

  5. One question.  Those with great internet connections, moaning about their torrents being cut to 100 - 200 kbps.  Does it really make a difference at the end of the day?  I managed until recently on a 256kbps adsl connection, with torrents downloading at 10 to 20kbps.   That gave me a couple of hours UK tv to watch every night, plus  a buffer of many movies, & series I just don't have time to watch.  The only complaint was it was impossible to download current sports, a footie match would take me 2 days, & no watching the news etc for spoilers.  Just wondering what the heck people are downloading.  Didn't come to Thailand to watch tv all day.

  6. I live south of San Kamphaeng, and have suffered a very fragile 256kbps connection for 4 years.  A couple of weeks ago TOT finally installed new "equipment" nearer our house, now a mere 3km away & "bang" 3MB download connection.  Well chuffed  :D

  7. Why don't you get a yellow book and do away with the need for resident certificates once and for all?

That's a rather snobbish statement, when someone is just offering helpful advice.

So you have a yellow book.....well tickle my tits til Christmas, well done, congratulations, good for you.

Why don't you tell people exactly what's involved in order to get one?

    Noise annoys  ;)

  8. But for the purposes of doing counter withdrawals at Thai banks, those that do counter withdrawals are certainly going to accept any card carrying a Visa

    or MC logo.

Mine's a VISA debit card.  Works fine for over the counter withdrawals.

  9.  Have you cost out the amount it'll cost for land fill of your half rai rice field?    Is there electrics to the planned build site?   City water or will you have to drill a well?    When you add it all these extra costs, the price per talang wah of land obviously goes up.

    Jimmy

On my wife's plot where we live out in the ricefields, 950 talang wa, the cost of bringing in electricity (about 300m) & transformer, 26m borehole + watertower, raising land where the house is above flood level, & rest of the land above ricefield level only raised the cost per talang wa by 350bt.  But I fully understand that you prefer to have a plot much closer to the city, walking distance to shops & banks etc.  Naturally that's going to cost a lot more per talang wa.  But it doesn't cost so much more to add electricity & water.

  10. I had a tyre losing a few psi over a week.  Suspected a leaking valve or rim, kept topping it up.  Eventually had it checked at a tyre shop.  2 nails were found, plugged.  No problems since.  In all my experience of driving over the years, much of it offroad in deserts, never had such a slow puncture before.  Loads of blow outs or very quick deflations, but nothing like this.

  11. I use k bank, who have an over the counter limit of 20,000bt,

Is that a limit on your account or .......

Reason I ask is I can pull 240k out of a K bank ATM ( 2 transactions), over the counter im not sure what my limit is, have pulled 300k with no probs though.

No, those were the limits they quoted at K-bank when I asked to withdraw 40,000bt. They hadn't seen my card. I thought my UK bank would allow whatever was in the account, but I've never given it much thought, as 40,000 is the most I've needed at one time.

Maybe the balaclava helmet & sunglasses influenced their decision

  12. I have a Citibank Singapore card, and am balking at paying their 430.00 USD fee to wire 16,000

Do I understand correctly that I can go into BKK Bank where I have an account, and withdraw and/or transfer from City to BKK without paying a fee?

I've no idea about your citibank card, but I use my UK bank atm card that works at atms here, & is accepted over the counter to withdraw cash,  no local account necessary.

  13. I drive past there most days and could not help but notice that they are whacking up a condo unit right in front of houses on phase one that were already sold and occupied.

    Nice view

nice views of the overpasses too.  And nice views into the houses from the overpasses.....

The exhaust noise from big trucks climbing up the overpasses should help insomniacs.....
