Maybe someone is up-to-date with the rules for Thai people using passport or ID card (with some 3? day pass)? All I know is that procedures for passport are different from using ID card. For a weekend and refraining to Vientiane the ID card might suffice.

Globally: have you noticed the terrible energy crisis in Germany which buys LNG for about any price? LNG is an important factor for Thai energy prices. And as mentioned above: energy prices in Thailand are not a free unregulated market. Subsidies on one side, extra tax on the other. Gasoline consumers paying for the diesel subsidies (part of).

Never paid that much for a one-way from Suvarnabhumi to Khon Kaen in 11 years. The flight TO Suvarnabhumi: rescheduled to a later time three days ahead.
