  1. My children had British passports issued (Dec '08 and April '11) on the strength of the original Thai birth certificate supported by a professional translation, which had not been 'legalised' by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs in either case.

Both applications were made in person at the British Embassy in Bangkok, although everything will be sent to the British Consulate General in Hong Kong who are responsible for issuing passports in the region.

I didn't produce my wife's Thai birth certificate, but you will need to show the mother's passport (neither she nor the child need to be present).

You will need the full version of your British birth certificate, original Thai marriage certificate supported by a translation, your passport and, of course the fee (something in the region of THB 5000), which can be paid by debit card.

The documents will be copied at the embassy and returned to you immediately, the passport should arrive 3-4 weeks later.

    Good luck!

    Edit: layout

You do not need a marriage certificate if your not married!

  2. Having recently obtained a yellow Tabien Bahn, I give my experience below.

My status is: unmarried, living in a house with a Thai partner. The land was bought 8 years ago, and the house subsequently built on this land. I have lived in this house, as a retiree, with my partner since then.

As previously stated, every Amphur office will have different requirements of what documents to produce etc. From reading previous posts, I got off lightly. My office only required a 'Letter of Residence' from the British Consulate, with official Thai translation of this letter only. Also: copies of my passport photo page and visa page; copies of my partners blue T.B. and ID card. A date was fixed for us to attend the office, bringing with us two Thai's from the Village as witnesses. The paperwork was completed during our visit. I wrote, in English, my Mother and Fathers names and education detais for them, they translated these details for the T.B. As no English was spoken in this office, a few questions were asked me via my partner, and all was finished within an hour.

One month later I collected my T.B. at no cost.

I have just hit the wall of songkhran, but here in Bang Phli, the documents they asked for are:

translation of passport (main details page only) certified at Brit embassy and translation certified at MOFA

letter providing details of myself and parents certified at brit embassy and translation certified at MOFA

(Incidentally did both these documents at brit embassy and they were very helpful, I showed them the requirements (in Thai) and the lady walked me through what I needed to show and then helped me fill in the form letter that they supplied, waited for 45 mins and recieved the docs).

copy of wifes ID and Tabien Baan,

    2 photo's.

that was all, so hope to get the thai translations certifed back on the 19th this month, and then stop in at Bang Phli amphur, they said sign two documents and done.

I will update when I receive it.

    regards

    seismic

Any Ideas on the British Embassy Charges?

Where do you get the translation done?

Do you then have to goto the MOFA (is that in Laksi where Thais get there passports?) and get these certified?

Can this be achieved in 1 day running around BKK?

  3. Well this simply means i will be closing my Nationwide Flex account as the only thing i use it for is ATM transactions abroad.

    NO PROBLEM ,,

today , i called into my local NATIONWIDE office ,,{returning to LOS, end of mounth ]

with the flexiaccont debit card , you can continue to withdraw money abroad , as before .

nationwide are issuing a new cash card in june this year,

which cannot be used abroad , and this card does not have a overdrawn facility .

[possibly for high risk , customers ].

Have you checked the withdrawalrate on the debit card. From what i remember the cirrus Cash card was the better option.

Additionally i do not want the ability to overdraw on the card as it is left in my Wife's Family hands as an easy and cheap way to transfer a small amount of money each month as and when needed. No way i want the ability to build up an overdraft on an account where i do not have total control of the card itself. I may trust the person who keeps the card but do i trust everyone around him and who has access to his house?

Will probably have to look at prepaid cards which will mean a lesser exchange rate.

Snap, in the same boat. bloody pain what with the exchange rate and now this arghhh

  4. YIPPEE :)

Good news for me - I'm going to the UK this month.

Also, when I send money home to my mother, she gets more.

It isn't too bad for the pensioners - it was only 37 baht to the pound when I first came here in 1992.

It might make a few of the undesirable stay away from here, or go back too.

    Your post is total rubbish.

Back in the early 90s the cost of living in Thailand was less than a quarter compared with today`s prices and Thai bank interest rates reached a high of 13%. Plus only 150000 baht was required for a one year Non Immigrant visa.

With an amount of 1 million baht in the bank, you could very comfortably live on the interest without tapping into the capital or need to bring over more money.

Things have changed dramatically and it`s going to be financially down hill from now on.

very very true, 'Neeranam' does not know what he's talking about!

  5. Can anyone explain how I can register my smart card/sim (same phone number) and then pay for ad hoc channels via 7 eleven I think.

Can't find out how this all fits together and have just had the box/dish/freeview installed non-rental bought it.

    Many Thanks

  6. The new Hua Hin hospital is now open, anyone have any experience with treatment here and charges for having to stay a few nights?

These are some hospital prices quoted by my insurance agent for hospital room per day:

    Sao Paulo 2,900

    Hua Hin Hospital 1,800

    Petcharad 2,470

    Bangkok Hospital 6,750

    Bunungrad 7,785

Well the g/f just spent 8 nights in HHH at 1,200 baht a night on the 7th floor, Excellent big room and was taken care of better than SP at less cost.

  7. Ok, So what are the options to get Premieur Leagus football? I know True Visions have the option Gold package about 1500 baht month, Platinum 2000 baht. Does the Dstv South Africa install give you the football as this is my main requirement?

  8. Next to soi 10

So excuse me, do you mean the old Hua-Hin hospital that was doing up the top floor for the King and Queen?

The new hospital complex that was built next to the old one. The whole building was new as far as I remember not only the top floor

  9. I have an expired visa not marriage but type 'Other-to visit Thai spouse/family' and have to leave the country at the end of the month, however I want to stay until late January.

I have heard that I can goto immigration and extent this visa for another 60 days for 1900 baht

I have a young daughter here and we live together with my girlfriend and they both have their names in the tabian bahn, I don't.

Does anyone know if this can be done as I don't fancy leaving the country to get a 60 day tourist visa?

    Cheers
