  1. Commenting on my own comments..

Why not purchase the land via the Thai majority-owned company that is registered for owning the land and operating the hotel venture, (where I have preferential voting rights), AND then lease the land for 30 years from that company. Then I would seem to have 'double-control' over the land.

    Hi Simon

I wanted to do this but could not find a lawyer who would handle it. Are you going to put the buildings in your name?

  2. Just wondering if anyone has a recent price for stainless steel gates / railings. I am being quoted about 10,000 per meter for (allegedly) the best quality stainless steel.

Is that a square meter Texas? How much did the gate end up costing and what is it's dimensions?

What were the hiccups if you don't mind me asking?

  3. If you are having a house built for yourself, make sure that you get your name on the building permit. A construction contract between you and the builder is exactly that, it won't prove ownership in the future. Only the building permit or a sales agreement will do that. If the land is owned by a company, then you should secure a 30 year lease and then get the building permit in your name.

land offices (at least in Ko Phangan so i assume its the rule everywhere) will not issue a building permit in the name of a foreigner. it must be a Thai person or Thai owned company.

Seems to be the same here in Hua Hin Thai Person or Thai owned company can only get a Building Permit.

In the same boat as the OP and have the BP in the company name, however think I will go the superficies route to claim ownership of the property:

    What do you think?

Certainly you have to have real land rights in your name ( superficies, lease etc.) before you can get a building permit with your name on it. Whoever said that you can just throw up a building anywhere you wish, without the land owners permission.

The Company who own the land gave me permission to build on the land, however only giving me written confirmation and not legal confirmation at the time the BP was applied for.

  5. expanding this a little:

What is a good brand of paint for exterior use at a reasonable price. I've been told TOA 7 in 1 is the best however the price is very high?

Also interior paint good quality paint at a resonable price?

  6. Anyone have any experience of how long he will have to wait for the EEA Family Permitafter the application is entered, applying in Bangkok?

ive heard between 1 week and 1 month but the eea family permit is quicker than preference over say a settlement or any other visa....just google....EEa family permit visa and you will get all the info from the home office website

It's also true that your wife can work on this permit, isn't it?

  7. I have a large downstairs area to cover and want some plain colored cream granito as the wife calls them, floor tiles.

However on a trip around the Homemarts/Homepros I am presented with many terms (Nano/Porcelain/Homegenous/Grade AAA) many prices and little coherent explaination of the differences. Trawling the net also is not turning up much sense.

    Seen These brands today

    RCI - www.rci.co.th

    Central Premier - http://www.centralpremier.co.th/CP%20Group/home.htm

Any laymans help would be appreciated.

  8. Okay, this might seem like a silly question, but I can't seem to wrap my head around it.

I have two passports: Canadian and Irish.

I entered Thailand on my Canadian passport (has my re-entry permit, etc). I also have a valid Thai work permit.

I intend to go to London next month for a few days and then come back to Thailand.

When I enter and depart from Heathrow, is there any reason why I shouldn't use my Irish passport? From what I understand, it makes customs go by much faster (is this even true?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    BFD!

Enter via an Irish passport and you can go straight through the EEC channel without any bother

  9. Would like any updates to this thread. 2 storey house and good shower power required, new build with a large outdoor on the ground water tank. What pump would you recommend and what psi is safe without worrying about how long my glue will last?

Also do these water pumps burn much electricity?

  10. Getting a 2000 litre tank to have a backup of municipal water here in Hua Hin. I have noticed green algae in the same municipal water at my rented property and thing that I don't want all that floating around in the new tank so am trying to work out the best way to stop this and possibly get clean water to the house for showers and drinkable water out the taps.

So far thinking along these lines after doing some research.

    1. Put a 20inch sediment filter before the tank to filter out the algae.

    This type.

http://www.emwc.co.uk/Details.asp?ProductID=671 Not sure what type of filter to insert carbon/polypropelene

    2. 6 Stage Ultra Violet Reverse Osmosis water filter system for drinking water under the sink.

    http://www.emwc.co.uk/Details.asp?ProductID=265

However a friend said that I should put this big stainless type (looks like a divers oxygen tank) thing after the 2000 litre tank and my water will be clean but says not sure if I can drink.

It's a 2 storey property. 2 bathrooms upstairs, 1 downstairs. I havn't even thought about type and watts of pump I need. 2000 litre tank will be about 20 meters away from upstairs bathrooms though.

Any help in designing this would be greatly appreciated.

  11. Trying to get together the layout of the water system for a new house and read that the shower water should go through the grease trap and not the septic tanks.

2 upstairs bathroom toilets hit one septic tank and a downstairs bathroom toilet hits another tank. Also have a medium sized grease trap to capture the sink water. Not sure where the shower water should go as getting conflicting reports

  12. Have you ever tried an inductive type electric burner. little to no heat generated(you can shut off one of the aircons) I used to be a gas man, but the inductive tastes & cooks the same & is a heck of a lot cheaper to run.

I don't understand this eardog. Are you suggesting an alternative to the gas cooker?
