  1. Anyone have any experience of how long he will have to wait for the EEA Family Permitafter the application is entered, applying in Bangkok?

ive heard between 1 week and 1 month but the eea family permit is quicker than preference over say a settlement or any other visa....just google....EEa family permit visa and you will get all the info from the home office website

It's also true that your wife can work on this permit, isn't it?

  2. I have a large downstairs area to cover and want some plain colored cream granito as the wife calls them, floor tiles.

However on a trip around the Homemarts/Homepros I am presented with many terms (Nano/Porcelain/Homegenous/Grade AAA) many prices and little coherent explaination of the differences. Trawling the net also is not turning up much sense.

    Seen These brands today

    RCI - www.rci.co.th

    Central Premier - http://www.centralpremier.co.th/CP%20Group/home.htm

Any laymans help would be appreciated.

  3. Okay, this might seem like a silly question, but I can't seem to wrap my head around it.

I have two passports: Canadian and Irish.

I entered Thailand on my Canadian passport (has my re-entry permit, etc). I also have a valid Thai work permit.

I intend to go to London next month for a few days and then come back to Thailand.

When I enter and depart from Heathrow, is there any reason why I shouldn't use my Irish passport? From what I understand, it makes customs go by much faster (is this even true?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    BFD!

Enter via an Irish passport and you can go straight through the EEC channel without any bother

  4. Would like any updates to this thread. 2 storey house and good shower power required, new build with a large outdoor on the ground water tank. What pump would you recommend and what psi is safe without worrying about how long my glue will last?

Also do these water pumps burn much electricity?

  5. Getting a 2000 litre tank to have a backup of municipal water here in Hua Hin. I have noticed green algae in the same municipal water at my rented property and thing that I don't want all that floating around in the new tank so am trying to work out the best way to stop this and possibly get clean water to the house for showers and drinkable water out the taps.

So far thinking along these lines after doing some research.

    1. Put a 20inch sediment filter before the tank to filter out the algae.

    This type.

http://www.emwc.co.uk/Details.asp?ProductID=671 Not sure what type of filter to insert carbon/polypropelene

    2. 6 Stage Ultra Violet Reverse Osmosis water filter system for drinking water under the sink.

    http://www.emwc.co.uk/Details.asp?ProductID=265

However a friend said that I should put this big stainless type (looks like a divers oxygen tank) thing after the 2000 litre tank and my water will be clean but says not sure if I can drink.

It's a 2 storey property. 2 bathrooms upstairs, 1 downstairs. I havn't even thought about type and watts of pump I need. 2000 litre tank will be about 20 meters away from upstairs bathrooms though.

Any help in designing this would be greatly appreciated.

  6. Trying to get together the layout of the water system for a new house and read that the shower water should go through the grease trap and not the septic tanks.

2 upstairs bathroom toilets hit one septic tank and a downstairs bathroom toilet hits another tank. Also have a medium sized grease trap to capture the sink water. Not sure where the shower water should go as getting conflicting reports

  7. Have you ever tried an inductive type electric burner. little to no heat generated(you can shut off one of the aircons) I used to be a gas man, but the inductive tastes & cooks the same & is a heck of a lot cheaper to run.

I don't understand this eardog. Are you suggesting an alternative to the gas cooker?

  8. Just getting to the stage of having to see the thai electrician on our new house build and I will have to start thinking about safe electrics and power consumption me thinks.

Trying to get the house as cool as possible using 20cm qcon blocks. 250sq M 3 bed/3bath two storey.

Know absolutely nothing about electrics or current, all I know is we got a 1 phase, 2 wire 220V meter 15(45)Amp meter outside.

    Looks like we need:

    4 aircons - 3 upstairs beds and 1 downstairs

    3 electric showers

    switches and sockets

    Gas cooking the missus wants.

A thread by kamalabob2 has pushed me towards getting panasonic switches and sockets, would like to know about the trip box etc and making sure the grounding is planned propably + any other safety issues I may need.

    Help would be greatly appreciated.

  9. Just bought 4 cameras without the power supply units. Thinking of getting them in Thailand. What do you think. All the cctv cameras seem to have the same connection to the camera or should I just buy plug adapters?

12V PSU 1.25A 1000mA regulated (Must be regulated for IR LEDS)

  10. In addition to Stumonster comments:

My experience with an Avermedia box, 4 cams connected and a 320GB harddisk - Footage is stored for at least 4 days, in CIF4 format. I don't know if it's admissable as evidence in a UK court, but this is most certainly not the UK but Thailand.

From the footage, it's easy to recognize faces and tattoos if the person is less than 10 meters away from the camera. With IR light, this distance is only 5 meters. Additional IR lights would probably make a difference. A bigger problem is contrast: camera's pointed at open, sunny spaces will not properly record things in the foreground (which appear too dark on screen).

Camera's used are outdoor IR cams, priced around 2900baht each. 12V power supply, analog video output.

Bandwidth usage: watching the footage live over the network in full quality requires 1Mbps bandwidth. But in most cases, you'll want to search for specific footage after some incident and the easiest way to do that is at the DVR and television using the remote to search for specific images.

Cabling: coaxial cables from the cameras to the DVR can be quite long, 50 meter will not cause problems.

Electricity problems can be solved with a UPS and a separate electricity circuit for the power adapters of the camera. If the distances are not too big, one could make it a 12V circuit and connect all camera's to a single, efficient 12V power supply.

    Hi Prasert

What was the cost of your system and what model avermedia dvr and cameras did you purchase?

  11. Hi everyone,

I do CCTV Cameras, installation and training. Please PM me for more information. I am based in Chiang Mai so any of you Chiang Mai'ers interested, do let me know.

I charge about 22k for everything included. 4 IR cameras, a standalone DVR with 320Gig HDD (4 channels), training, internet setup so that you can view your cams all over the world and full fledge training in English.

    Many other packages included.

    TB..

whose manufacturers equipment do you use and for that price what is the distance of the IR and how many leds on the cameras?

    Cheers

  12. I'd say buy it from the UK! The current exchange rate of the pound makes everything from there very cheap!

If you want to buy in Thailand, have a look in the Ban Mo area (bangkok, next to Old Siam shopping mall). Loads and loads of cameras, DVR's and all cables, connectors, etc. And ehm....speak Thai as hardly any farang ever goes there.

There's also quite some stuff in Fortune. I wouldn't recommend Pantip, not a lot of choice there.

    Recommended DVR: AverMedia

AverMedia funny you should say that as I was checking them out here:

  13. I am looking to buy a cctv system for my house.

Want at least 4 cameras (Not night time vision as expensive) Standalone DVR, ability to view via the web with decent software, ability to view on any TV's in my house, needs to be able to link into one of the dynamic dns servers as it's hard to get a fixed ip here.

Any suggestions of where to buy and ball park figure on cost?

If I buy one in the UK and cart it to los will it work through the electric system there and can I buy the wire in los to save me carting that.

type of system I'm looking at buying is here, system432 :

  14. Also thinking of bringing one from the UK but for use with cctv cameras, infact thinking of bringing cameras also from the UK. I can get the VAT back here. Think that the prices are cheaper here but not sure about the cameras. Anyone know? Will I have any electrical problems? Want to plug it into tv's, also it's internet based. Wiring is that available?
