Just getting to the stage of having to see the thai electrician on our new house build and I will have to start thinking about safe electrics and power consumption me thinks.
Trying to get the house as cool as possible using 20cm qcon blocks. 250sq M 3 bed/3bath two storey.
Know absolutely nothing about electrics or current, all I know is we got a 1 phase, 2 wire 220V meter 15(45)Amp meter outside.
Looks like we need:
4 aircons - 3 upstairs beds and 1 downstairs
3 electric showers
switches and sockets
Gas cooking the missus wants.
A thread by kamalabob2 has pushed me towards getting panasonic switches and sockets, would like to know about the trip box etc and making sure the grounding is planned propably + any other safety issues I may need.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Just bought a laptop from dell in the UK with anti glare screen. Looks matte to me.

Just bought 4 cameras without the power supply units. Thinking of getting them in Thailand. What do you think. All the cctv cameras seem to have the same connection to the camera or should I just buy plug adapters?
12V PSU 1.25A 1000mA regulated (Must be regulated for IR LEDS)

In addition to Stumonster comments:
My experience with an Avermedia box, 4 cams connected and a 320GB harddisk - Footage is stored for at least 4 days, in CIF4 format. I don't know if it's admissable as evidence in a UK court, but this is most certainly not the UK but Thailand.
From the footage, it's easy to recognize faces and tattoos if the person is less than 10 meters away from the camera. With IR light, this distance is only 5 meters. Additional IR lights would probably make a difference. A bigger problem is contrast: camera's pointed at open, sunny spaces will not properly record things in the foreground (which appear too dark on screen).
Camera's used are outdoor IR cams, priced around 2900baht each. 12V power supply, analog video output.
Bandwidth usage: watching the footage live over the network in full quality requires 1Mbps bandwidth. But in most cases, you'll want to search for specific footage after some incident and the easiest way to do that is at the DVR and television using the remote to search for specific images.
Cabling: coaxial cables from the cameras to the DVR can be quite long, 50 meter will not cause problems.
Electricity problems can be solved with a UPS and a separate electricity circuit for the power adapters of the camera. If the distances are not too big, one could make it a 12V circuit and connect all camera's to a single, efficient 12V power supply.
Hi Prasert
What was the cost of your system and what model avermedia dvr and cameras did you purchase?

Hi everyone,
I do CCTV Cameras, installation and training. Please PM me for more information. I am based in Chiang Mai so any of you Chiang Mai'ers interested, do let me know.

Many other packages included.
TB..
whose manufacturers equipment do you use and for that price what is the distance of the IR and how many leds on the cameras?

I'd say buy it from the UK! The current exchange rate of the pound makes everything from there very cheap!
If you want to buy in Thailand, have a look in the Ban Mo area (bangkok, next to Old Siam shopping mall). Loads and loads of cameras, DVR's and all cables, connectors, etc. And ehm....speak Thai as hardly any farang ever goes there.
There's also quite some stuff in Fortune. I wouldn't recommend Pantip, not a lot of choice there.
Recommended DVR: AverMedia
AverMedia funny you should say that as I was checking them out here:

I am looking to buy a cctv system for my house.
Want at least 4 cameras (Not night time vision as expensive) Standalone DVR, ability to view via the web with decent software, ability to view on any TV's in my house, needs to be able to link into one of the dynamic dns servers as it's hard to get a fixed ip here.
Any suggestions of where to buy and ball park figure on cost?
If I buy one in the UK and cart it to los will it work through the electric system there and can I buy the wire in los to save me carting that.
type of system I'm looking at buying is here, system432 :

Friend just got married after short romance. I have heard that as he as can obtain an Irish passport it can be easier to get his wife into the UK.
Is this so as I will let him know?

I have a htc hd touch phone and would like to pick up my emails on the go.
What network should I buy my sim from?
Many Thanks

Also thinking of bringing one from the UK but for use with cctv cameras, infact thinking of bringing cameras also from the UK. I can get the VAT back here. Think that the prices are cheaper here but not sure about the cameras. Anyone know? Will I have any electrical problems? Want to plug it into tv's, also it's internet based. Wiring is that available?

Sorry Rimmer didn't make myself clear.
The two layers forming the cavity will be qcon and it is 2 storey. The partition of room walls I am thinking of cinder. Just wondering about when they meet each other what to use glue or mortar and if I will be liable to craking on the joins.
-
Rimmer.
I am thinking of doing the same cavity on my outside walls using cpac aac or qcon blocks. To try and save on the cost of build I am thinking of putting normal blocks on the interior walls. Do you think I will have any problems where the two diffent type of blocks join?

My major dislike of the company route for ownership was the nominess being my wife and the Thais working at the Lawyers Office. The Thais at the lawyers office were nominess for dozens (hundreds???) of similar companies in the Pattaya area.
I looked into the Usufruct/30 year lease thing and was working with Sunbelt to set up the Usufruct.
The process of doing this involved me having to remove all the shareholders and putting new shareholders in place so the Usufruct could be set up. Something to do with the Usufruct not being allowed in the name of a current shareholder - ie my wife.
To cut a long story short, I realsied I could remove the Thai nominees in the office as now only 3 people are needed for the company setup.
Sorted - so now the company is just me, my wife and her mother.
So the problem as far as I am concerned is solved or at least manageable. It was always unsettling to me that I would need to try to argue the case for nominees that were nominees in many other companies!
I know this will be 'knocked down' as still illegal etc... still it is alot better than it was - and the Usufruct thing just did not feel right. I dont like the idea I would be living here the rest of my life without the authority to sell if I wanted to.
Good idea. Was this any easy process and what was the cost to register the resignation documents and appoint the new 3rd shareholder?
Does this still give you control though?

Just drive out any of the sois from about 6 to 115 and see about all the unfinished bui9ldings and buy from them at a discount! Also, you might call a few builders and see jhow many unfinished houses theuy have to get rid of materials..... What ever you do make sure you pay upon delivery and they have security untill the materials are used!
Your having a laugh. Look on the main drag, building building and more building. Ok some builders have stopped but I doubt they have stockpiled materials.
Please note that I said, being more specific that to say drive out, drive west on the sois......
Certainly there is alot of building on Petch... ( I assume you were referting to the main street thre town)
You might also try to special order items from unemployed building workers. there are many of them waiting to serve you!

In a recession the rich get richer.....
What a nonsense. What is happening now with 5000$ suits bankers? Hundreds of thousands jobs in finance only lost. Ask Richard Fuld, ex-CEO of Lehman, he was a billionaire (when you see him at soup kitchen). CEOs of Detroit's Big 3 - they were paid 20+ million a year now working for 1$, their piles of stocks worthless.
in a recession, the rich survive, the poor get f@#$%! and the rest move back with their parents ..
I couldn't agree more... Like I said, happy days are here again! FCYK< I've already made money in the market in the U.S. And, yes my 6% guaranteed Annuity did get a bailout from the U.S. Mahalo tayers, for the tax rebate. Also another fund, retirement, went belly up but was bailed out under U.S. Law.... Happy Days are Still here! Have money, during recession, get more!
Your not a full shilling FarangFatal, go Troll somewhere else!

Q Con is load bearing so you can throw away the sow poons altogether and build UK style with proper footings and O Con lapped corners.
Never seen this done, is that for real?

So Thailand cuts rates and the baht strenghtens , whilst the pound falls even before rates are announced in the UK ??
and I don't see how this would work , see under , surely all rates are interlinked , so how would one benefit by changing pounds to dollars and then transferring to Thailand ?
"QUOTE (Tafia @ 2008-12-03 11:17:46)
With the uncertainty of a reasonable £ exchange, would UK expats be able to transfer via SWIFT US$ instead of £.
Wou;d that give them a better exchange over there?
The short answer is yes but really it depends on what rate you get when you trade GBP for USD. Change one Pound Sterling for Baht and you get x baht, trade one Pound Sterling for Dollars, Swift it to Thailand and then change it to Baht and you still get x, broadly speaking. But trade Sterling for Dollars now and wait for the value of Sterling to fall and you will still get the pre-fall rate for Baht using Dollars. Make sense? "
If you look at USD/BAHT currently it has been climbing slowly over recent weeks whilst GBP/BAHT has been falling - GBP has been falling against USD also. Therefore, change GBP for USD now and when GBP/USD next falls you can use USD to buy BAHT at the higher rate.
Maybe GBP rises against the USD from here on and you are caught!

Can anyone recommend a fair priced builders merchants in HH or Cha Am.

Thanks Lite Beer. Will do some investigations on this one and report back!

Many thanks but my wife does not have an income so how would that work ?
Members have reported that their Wifes go to the tax office and pay tax on an imaginary income.
Any idea with a ball park figure how much would that be 4 the year on 480,000?

Can you still get this Visa Extension for over 50, thai child and not married?

A pity you can not hold the laywer responsible who adviced you to set up an illegal structure and told you it was the best legal way.
Then again, why not try. Would be nice to see them sweat and come up with some solid reasoning why they gave illegal advice.
Jail time would be nice, and a fine of course. Let's say 10.000 baht fine and 5 year jail.
illegal, why, a company can own land and property!
