Alcohol blast injures seven at Yala primary school

Seven people, including five pupils, were injured when alcohol reportedly exploded during a science experiment at a primary school in Yaha district, Yala, on 26 August.

Two people were seriously hurt, including one with an eye injury and another with injuries to the chest. The incident happened at about 11.30am in a classroom at a school in tambon Tachi.

The Yaha Police Station radio centre was alerted to the accident after the reported explosion during the classroom experiment.

Pupils and teachers taken to hospital

Initial information said the injured were two female teachers and five pupils - four boys and one girl.

Local residents helped move those injured from the classroom before they were taken to Yaha Hospital for initial treatment and assessment.

The injured were subsequently transferred to Yala Hospital for further care and close monitoring, according to the report.

No names, ages or further details on their condition have yet been released.

Authorities investigate the experiment

Officials are examining the circumstances of the blast, including the cause and the nature of the science experiment that led to the alcohol explosion.

Authorities said they were continuing to establish the facts and cause of the explosion, as they monitor the condition of those injured.
