Australian Arrested at Bangkok Airport Over Pattaya Murder

Police have arrested a 46-year-old Australian man at Suvarnabhumi Airport after he attempted to flee Thailand, in connection with the disappearance and murder of a 17-year-old Thai girl whose body was found on 27 June 2026, inside a suitcase abandoned beside railway tracks in Pattaya.

The suspect, identified publicly by Thai police as Mr. Simon Peter Carman, was detained while attempting to buy a ticket to return to Australia. He has denied any involvement in the killing and maintains he is innocent despite what police describe as strong CCTV evidence. He currently faces a charge of abducting a minor under the age of 18 for indecent purposes.

The arrest followed a joint investigation by Pattaya City Police and Nong Prue Police, who traced the suspect’s movements using CCTV footage collected along his suspected escape route.

According to investigators, the victim, Miss T, 17, from Kalasin province, disappeared after entering a condominium on Jomtien Second Road with Carman at 3.34am on June 25. CCTV footage showed the pair holding hands as they entered the building and went to Room 20 on the 15th floor. Police say the teenager was never seen leaving the condominium alive.

Further CCTV footage recorded at around 9.34pm the same day allegedly showed Carman dragging a large black suitcase from the building. He loaded it onto a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle bearing Prachuap Khiri Khan registration. Police later used CCTV tracking him riding along Sukhumvit Road towards Soi Chaiyapruk 2 and then onto a road running parallel to the railway tracks.

Investigators said the suspect disappeared from CCTV coverage for more than nine minutes before returning to the condominium on the same motorcycle without the suitcase. Police believe the victim’s body was disposed of during that period.

A body concealed inside a black suitcase was later discovered beside railway tracks behind Pattaya Floating Market in Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri. Police from Pattaya and Nong Prue coordinated efforts under senior officers, analysing CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and locate the suspect.

Officers tracked Carman to Suvarnabhumi Airport, where he was arrested before boarding a flight. Authorities are continuing to question him while forensic specialists gather additional evidence to support the case. The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to examine forensic evidence and complete the case file for legal proceedings.

That's not a report. It's an off the cuff observation by some cops who haven't examined the body in detail. They don't know where the blood came from, and don't know if the appearance of bruising is the result of violence, or being bounced around in a suitcase.

The "report" hasn't come out yet.

No blood pressure = no bruising. Blood still flows but only by pooling. There is no circulation in a corpse.

We will never know exactly what happened in the room...

What we do know for sure is the girl is gone and this this guy has 4 or-5 very serious charges he could and likely will be charged with...

Which means he might never leave prison or he will be pretty old if he ever gets out....He has no defence to speak of, so a very long sentence is a forgone conclusion...

another australian sex tourist criminal, no surprise there.

thankfully, now immigration has reduced the visa exempt stay from 60 to 30 days, criminals like this will no longer be able to enter thailand... apparently.

They have done nothing. Just talk endlessly. And even with this proposal they may well be rowing back, so essentially nothing may well be done.

The real issue is the long term visas.

He seems though to have a slight English accent ,maybe arrived in Australia when he was a kid

Why don't you blame this on his parents instead of him !!!

So reading he had guns confiscated whilst in Australia.

Again begs the question Thailand should be checking criminal records before dishing out long term visas.

Here’s a detailed summary of the The West Australian article, without reproducing the copyrighted text.

The article focuses largely on Simon Peter Carman’s life in Western Australia, rather than the alleged murder itself.

It reports that Carman lived in Casuarina, south of Perth, until late 2025 before moving to Thailand. Former neighbours described him as a loner who rarely spoke to anyone and generally kept to himself. Some neighbours said they found him intimidating, while others said they simply had very little contact with him.

One of the biggest new details is that WA Police had previously seized firearms from Carman after concerns about his behaviour. The article says he later tried to overturn that decision through legal channels but was unsuccessful and did not regain his firearms licence. It doesn’t suggest the previous matter was connected to the current allegations, only that it formed part of his background.

The article also reports that he had been receiving a Disability Support Pension before leaving Australia and had relocated to Thailand around eight months before his arrest.

It then recounts the Thai police case:

  • Police allege he met 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla in Pattaya.

  • CCTV allegedly shows them entering his accommodation together.

  • Further CCTV allegedly shows him later leaving with a large black suitcase before riding a motorcycle to an area near railway tracks.

  • The teenager’s body was later found inside that suitcase.

  • Carman was arrested at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport while attempting to board a flight back to Perth.

The article also mentions Carman’s account to police. According to Thai investigators, he claims the teenager demanded more money than agreed, an argument followed, and she allegedly attacked him. He maintains he acted in self-defence and has denied intentionally killing her. Thai police say the physical evidence and CCTV do not support his explanation and have charged him with murder and other offences.

Finally, the article includes comments from neighbours expressing shock that someone they once lived near is now facing such serious allegations overseas, although several said they had always found him to be an unusual and isolated individual.

It has now emerged that Carman is British-born and now runs a fuel delivery service in Australia where he has a lengthy history with police. The suspect has previously been charged with disorderly behaviour in a public place, driving while disqualified and demanding property with threats

Wow, the guy is a bad egg.

British born, lengthy history with police......sounds like your average Tourist coming to Pattaya these days.

Poor Thailand 🙁

Poor Thailand ? The country skipped asking for any form of criminal record for long term visas.

Why?

Jokes aside, there's been many cases of foreigners killing these girls, then loading in a suitcase to dump

Looks like we were both wrong.

This creature is British born.

And on an Australian disability pension, certainly has mental illness

I expect they'll have plenty of time to worry about that kind of thing later. Maybe after the funeral?

Plenty of time?

Under the Thai Civil and Commercial Code (Section 448), the standard statute of limitations for a wrongful death civil case is one year from the day the victim's heirs become aware of both the wrongful act and the responsible party.

That is not plenty of time to put together a wrongful death case.

Looks like i was right, he was simple and couldn't cope with the situation when it escalated, but I didn't expect he had a violent criminal past

Source of Income: Before leaving for Thailand, Carman lived on and off in an industrial estate in the Perth suburb of Rockingham. He relied on a disability support pension and compensation payments for injuries he suffered while working as a truck driver.

Medical Context: Reports indicate he suffered from chronic back issues, having a rod in his back and a history of head injuries.

So that's all about the criminal case -- what abut the possible civil wrongful death case there in Pattaya and I don't mean also a civil case against the criminal defendant.

From an article about the killer in Thailand

one neighbor, asking for anonymity, telling reporters: “Everything about him was slow. He talked slow, he walked slow, he seemed to think slow”.

A nearby anonymous business staff member who said Carman occasionally came in noted that he seemed a bit abnormal because he spoke slowly and would stare at things in a detached manner for a long time"

He was too slow and simple to cope with the situation in the room when it escalated

His story reeks of BS to me. He's quite a big solid guy and he has to murder a little 17yo Thai gal with a knife in self defense??? In my younger wilder days I once had a drunk Thai GF come at me with a large knife. I disarmed her in a couple of seconds. Grabbed her arm and smashed it down hard on the back of a chair, she screamed in pain and immediately dropped the knife, which I picked up and put away. There was no need to hit her or wrestle with her. Just disarm her fast. Anyway RIP the poor girl.

Yeah even if she did come at him with a knife, he was in no danger and could run away into a room and hold the door closed if he wanted

What civil case?

Wrongful death claims can result in the assessment of civil and criminal penalties on parties that may be far removed from the negligent actor.

A wrongful death action is brought by close relatives of the decedent for damages incurred as a result of the victim's death.

.

Establishing liability requires that the plaintiff show that the defendant acted willfully, negligently, or unlawfully, resulting in the death of the victim.

In a recorded police interview, Carman addressed the victim’s family, saying: “I feel bad for what happened to your daughter - it was out of my control.” He also claimed bruises and scratches on his neck had been caused by spiders in his condominium.

This guy is 100% human trash.

If there is any justice he'll come out of Thai prison bruised and bloodied in a body bag, sooner than later.

Hard to get the disability support pension overseas unless your 100 % incapacitated, obviously he was !!

Many DSP recipients are refused overseas assistance even after being on DSP many years previously.

Non Australians should know how utterly appalled everyone in Australia is about this crime. The consensus is he should face the full force of Thai law and many, like me, hope it is the death penalty. Even then his pathetic life is not a fair swap for this young lady's.

In Thailand this is not unusual, I am sure security have seen far 'stranger' things?

It seems many, if not most, hotels and condos in Pattaya have a written policy that Thai late night visitors leave an ID. This is I'll guess largely seen as a nuisance and security just waves them through no ID provided.

But that can be a legitimate legal matter if the Thai person ends up dead.
