Australian Arrested at Bangkok Airport Over Pattaya Murder

Police have arrested a 46-year-old Australian man at Suvarnabhumi Airport after he attempted to flee Thailand, in connection with the disappearance and murder of a 17-year-old Thai girl whose body was found on 27 June 2026, inside a suitcase abandoned beside railway tracks in Pattaya.

The suspect, identified publicly by Thai police as Mr. Simon Peter Carman, was detained while attempting to buy a ticket to return to Australia. He has denied any involvement in the killing and maintains he is innocent despite what police describe as strong CCTV evidence. He currently faces a charge of abducting a minor under the age of 18 for indecent purposes.

The arrest followed a joint investigation by Pattaya City Police and Nong Prue Police, who traced the suspect’s movements using CCTV footage collected along his suspected escape route.

According to investigators, the victim, Miss T, 17, from Kalasin province, disappeared after entering a condominium on Jomtien Second Road with Carman at 3.34am on June 25. CCTV footage showed the pair holding hands as they entered the building and went to Room 20 on the 15th floor. Police say the teenager was never seen leaving the condominium alive.

Further CCTV footage recorded at around 9.34pm the same day allegedly showed Carman dragging a large black suitcase from the building. He loaded it onto a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle bearing Prachuap Khiri Khan registration. Police later used CCTV tracking him riding along Sukhumvit Road towards Soi Chaiyapruk 2 and then onto a road running parallel to the railway tracks.

Investigators said the suspect disappeared from CCTV coverage for more than nine minutes before returning to the condominium on the same motorcycle without the suitcase. Police believe the victim’s body was disposed of during that period.

A body concealed inside a black suitcase was later discovered beside railway tracks behind Pattaya Floating Market in Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri. Police from Pattaya and Nong Prue coordinated efforts under senior officers, analysing CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and locate the suspect.

Officers tracked Carman to Suvarnabhumi Airport, where he was arrested before boarding a flight. Authorities are continuing to question him while forensic specialists gather additional evidence to support the case. The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to examine forensic evidence and complete the case file for legal proceedings.

So maybe around 24 hours from the time the suitcase was discovered to stopping the alleged perp trying to fly out of Suvarnabhumi. Pretty good police work.

Thank you for the nods. I posted this because, in other dealings on a different forum, they would suggest that, after they cornered the alleged perp at the airport trying to escape, the police would have told him how much it will cost him to be able to get on the plane.

She was underage; it probably took a nasty turn a while back

Not 100% lady? WTF does that even mean? Do you know you’re judging from a photo? You think the skin tones are correct?

What difference would it make anyway?

Do you realise you know nothing about this?

Got any more wild guesses you’d like to share for no reason?

1) It means I am not 100% certain either way even though I see signs of the victim being an LB

2)Yes, I know.

3)Uh it could make a huge difference in the motivations and direction of the crime

4)I know more about it than you apparently

5)You seem to be more interested in me than the topic. Do you have literally anything to say about the topic ?

I would say it was exellent police work and that Aussie bloke is a cooked goose. Looking at the video of them entering the hotel it looks like he is dragging her along by the arm like she didn't want go with him.

In Thailand this is not unusual, I am sure security have seen far 'stranger' things?

The family can sue the condo ownership and management for wrongful death under a legal concept known as "negligent security"

If the security personnel explicitly bypassed guest verification protocols, ignored strict visitor policies, or let a non-resident in without the resident's authorization, it represents a direct breach of their duty.

Thailand also really needs to take a long hard look at why it attracts the scum.

I can't believe he was attempting to board an international flight dressed as he was. From the few different images posted it looks like he didn't own anything other than 'wife beaters'.

That is most certainly bogan behaviour.

Ladyboys are more likely to steal, fight and cause problems. Killing a woman like this shows no motive. If it's a woman I see no reason to kill her.

I'd agree with the fighting, disrespectful behaviour of tourists, as there is definitely an increase in the kids getting on planes to here over Magaluf these days, but in terms of this type of crime, it's probably less in total but with more solved thanks to CCTV and our phones tracking us. I wouldn't be surprised; before mobile phones, girls were disappearing from bars to never be heard from again far more often.

Anyone else curious about the cause of death?

Without that tidbit of information, I'm open to the possibility that it was a drug overdose and the guy just panicked to get rid of the body. That doesn't exonerate the guy, but it would paint a different picture.

Or, it may have been an act of violence. Have there been any updates in Thai media?

Ther's only one picture to paint here and that is the Aussie bloke in his cell looking out through the bars on the window.

Does not matter what sex the teenager was.

He has no right to murder a young teenager.

Look at the size of the teenager and then look at the size of him.

He cannot justify what he did.

What he gets coming to him . I hope he suffers.

some people kill for sport.

their minds are so twisted they don't need a motive.

Someone who killed for sport, i.e., a serial killer, would put far more effort into the planning of the murder in order to avoid being caught. The murder occurred without any thought whatsoever as to how the body would be disposed of, he had only his motorcycle to transport the body, could probably barely lift the suitcase, and in the end just left it by the side of the road. Someone who killed for sport would have planned the murder, including disposal of the body, far more thoroughly. I'd say there's a high likelihood that it was a crime of passion of some type. By the way, fulfilling a psychological need to commit a murder constitutes a motive.

It doesn't matter whether the victim was a woman or a lady boy. What is wrong with some posters here?

What we have, based on the information the police have released because they appear to believe they have a strong case, is the murder of a 17-year-old whose life had barely begun.

It is absolutely deplorable.

If he took her back and things weren't working out, what was wrong with simply paying her and letting her leave?

That is what the overwhelming majority of people involved in prostitution would do. What they don't do is murder a 17-year-old child, stuff her into a suitcase, dump her by railway tracks as though she were rubbish. Then allegedly try to board the next flight back to Australia as if nothing had happened.

What I find equally disturbing is the reaction from some people on this forum. Instead of showing the slightest compassion for a young girl who lost her life in such horrific circumstances, they're playing amateur detective, inventing theories and even making jokes.

Whatever the facts ultimately prove to be, a 17-year-old is dead. She deserves dignity and respect, not ridicule or entertainment.

This one hits particularly close to home for me. The girl came from the province where I have lived with my partner for nearly 25 years. Behind all the speculation was a real young person with a family whose lives have been devastated.

Word is from my Thai wife. Definitely a lady. The Aussie picked her up on Jomtien beach road. Her friend after a while couldn't contact her, I dont know how long that was. She went to the police who were able to trace her movements with the Aussie back to his condo on cctv. Further investigation and tracking cctv eventually led to them finding the body by the train road and his subsequent arrest at the airport. A pretty good response for once by the police.

I'm sure the family is equally interested in finding out what the motive behind the murder was, and as offensive as you may find it, speculation is part of the process of getting to the truth.

Women should always have a contact, let them know which hotel they are at.

And at the sign of any problems, have them on speed dial for emergencies.

But sometimes they may not even be able to get to their phones before things get out of hand.

According to the Daily News, he claimed that he was asleep and didn't know where the girl went. CCTV obviously blew that story out of the water.

Her name is Thanyachanok. A girl's name. How they knew her name I don't know, but if from ID then the ladyboy reaction violence theory would also be invalid.
