Briton Found Dead, Stabbed at Pattaya Home

A 33-year-old British man was found dead with multiple stab wounds inside a house in Pattaya on the morning of 2 July 2026, while his 20-year-old British girlfriend was taken into police custody for questioning. Officers said they believe she was involved in the incident, although she denied killing him and claimed she could not remember what happened.

Police were called at 10.30am to a single-storey house on Pornprapanimit Road (Soi Siam Country Club) in Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi. Investigators found the body of Thomas David Powell in the shower area of the bathroom, with a pillow supporting his neck and a towel covering his body. He had suffered two stab wounds to his back and ribs, three to the front of his torso and one to his left hand. A knife found in the sink appeared to have been washed clean, leading investigators to suspect an attempt had been made to remove fingerprints and other evidence.

Inside the property, officers found Isabel Violet Carreras, 20, also a British national and the victim’s girlfriend. Police described her as appearing dazed, confused and giving inconsistent answers, at times crying and appearing detached from her surroundings. The house showed signs of a struggle, with bloodstains in several rooms and belongings scattered throughout. Investigators also found cannabis-smoking equipment, and officers reported a strong smell of cannabis inside the property.

Police said the couple had been together for about two years and planned to build a future together in Thailand. The woman told investigators they had gone to look at engagement rings before returning home and smoking cannabis together. She claimed she could not remember the events that followed and said the couple regularly used cannabis together.

Video recorded as officers entered the property showed police asking the woman, “You kill him?” She replied, “Why kill him?” and later answered, “No.” In the same footage, she claimed the victim had been under severe stress, taken about eight tablets and that the pair had been playing with knives. She alleged he accidentally cut his face and hand before saying, “Hope I don’t wake up in the morning,” and, “If I stab myself in the neck, everything will be over,” before claiming he injured himself despite her attempts to stop him.

Police said they did not believe her account because of inconsistencies between her statement, the pattern of the victim’s injuries and physical evidence at the scene. Investigators also cited CCTV footage which reportedly showed the victim running from the house while crying out in pain. Officers said only the couple were inside the house at the time of the incident.

As rescue workers removed Powell’s body, the couple’s dog, which had been confined in a cage outside, watched as its owner was taken away. The woman was allowed to say goodbye to the dog before being escorted away by police.

The body has been sent for a full post-mortem examination while forensic officers continue collecting evidence. Police are conducting further interviews and said charges will be filed once all available evidence has been reviewed.

Ever realize how many are addicted to the painkillers they are prescribed, and the side effects they can have? It isn't weak to want to catch a buzz, it being the same as the millions who like it from alcohol. When it becomes a problem, an addiction, is when it causes trouble for the user and those around them. Yes, it can lead to harder drugs, which is why some should never touch any drugs, including alcohol.

I have no problem with weed being used for the suppression of physical pain, provided it is only prescribed after a consultation and medical by a qualified Dr. That is not the case here as we all know.

Painkillers and alcohol brought into the tale....despite not being mentioned in the OP, some mention of tablets and of cannabis some 3 times.

Deflecting or what?

I'm sure you realize that 99% of weed users here in Thailand are locals right? Along with any crime attached to it. Strong weed, readily available these days, can make some go haywire, but again, it's usually a hidden personality trait that has them going off. Millions use weed without any problems, let alone violent ones.

Yaba , Meth is another story, as it can make anyone hyped up and especially those prone to violence.

People that smoke weed aren't junkies. That term is attached to those hooked on more powerful, more addictive drugs like Heroin, Morphine, Meth or Cocaine, especially Crack.

Thailand attracts people mostly for the girls, and that will bring out all kinds from all over. A sex capital can have bad results when off kilter people are coming, and it's not about drugs as much but drinking and women.

Well this being Thailand, it's no wonder that the figure for Thais is going to a lot higher albeit I doubt 99% unless you have proof of that? No you are wrong, a very large percentage of "tourists" come for weed, freedom, running away from crime or police and basically acting the gangsta

Do you know that the tablets mentioned are not painkillers of some sort?

Antacid due to reflux caused by weed!

Exacerbated by weed?

You really want weed to be responsible, don't you? 😊

It's a character trait, not the weed. Those kind of people take weed to calm themselves down. But with the way their minds work, after a while it doesn't appear to work for them any more.

I'm gonna get shot down for this but never mind, cannabis can bring on paranoia, and finally psychosis.

Who remembers the old phrase:

'Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you'?

I've experienced paranoia years ago on the strong stuff, and I gather the stuff nowadays is much more potent.

Recently I've seen temporary psychosis with the son of a close friend, scary stuff indeed.

I'm not saying it's the definite cause of this murder but it could be a factor.

A couple of years ago I decided, after decades of not using weed, to give it a try as it had been legalized here in LOS. I went to a shop and asked for an "old school, very mild strain." It kicked my a$$! I can only imagine how much today's strong blends can affect the mind, especially if frequently used as this story indicates.

I watched a video about a month ago..this Brit went to a shop on soi watboon in Jomtien..bought some sat outside and smoked his spliff. 20 minutes later, he's in a bar and a totally different person. You could see the anger in his eyes while swaying about. What this stuff does to the brain no one knows. Just like the guy that was stabbed...manager of a weed farm, probably no regulation as to its strength. A shame, yet another young life lost for what.

I lived and worked in Bangers for a few years and have been travelling through Thailand since the late 90s and most recently a stint in Isan, so I feel I know a tiny little bit of this place. Is Pattaya particularly dangerous? Is there an undercurrent murky vibe? Why does it seem there's always a bad thing occurring there? How do the crime numbers stack up against other parts of Thailand and the world?

Yes, cannabis can trigger psychosis / schizophrenia in a person who is genetically predisposed.

But particularly in adolescents. The brain is not fully formed until around 25. So smoking copious amounts of pot before 25 has been shown to be especially high risk.

This girl was only 20 and we don't know how long she has been smoking.

So it is likely.

"People that smoke weed aren't junkies...."

Lol, keep kidding yourself........

They are weak-minded people who are unable to cope with the ups and downs of life without resorting to a 'crutch'. Same as alcoholics.. "I can stop if I want blah blah blah...". Yea, tell me another one!!

The amount of utter rubbish posted here is shocking. These are supposed to be the older and wiser? 😊

Please tell me that someone who claims to be a scientist no less, isn't proposing that a usually normal thinking girl, smoked lots of weed over time and then went about stabbing her partner around the house until he died, dragged the body to the bathroom, washed the knife, didn't answer the phone nor call the police and then claimed that her partner did it to himself, because of the aforementioned weed smoking?

It's so ridiculous, that it makes clear why some have been turned over, time and time again.

I've met this kind of woman. They are already on anti-depressants and other types on drugs. They have a mental disorder. It's not caused by weed. Don't be so gullible and stupid.

Here we go again "the situation was completely out of my control". It was the depression, anxiety attacks, and "medical" drugs that did it. Normally I am your sweet 20-year old girl you would love to have as your next door neighbor.

I can honestly state that I have met a few of this type. In fact I was in conversation with one recently. They have often already been diagnosed and may be on or off their prescribed medication or self medicating with visits to local pharmacies. They know they have issues and they understand that without their medication, they can really 'lose it'.

Cannabis is likely not the cause, neither did it exacerbate the situation. She likely smoked in order to calm down, perhaps after what she did. The problem, is the way that she thinks. Blaming drugs is sheer ignorance. Look at the person.

Not sure it's ok to completely dismiss the weed as it may be interacting with the drugs and the genetic predispositions.

Maybe weed + prescription anti-depressant or anti psychotic drugs + pre-existing mental disorder. Maybe more scientific studies are needed.

But that would be bad news for weed smokers. Because it ruins your narrative that it's a completely harmless drug.

Unfortunately this is typical of any Brit under 40 years old...victim playing entitlement due to some made up mental illness to include ADHD, ADD, autism and anxiety just so they can feel special. A clip round their ear is the only medicine that is required. She won't get the sympathy she expects,..alledged murderer
