Charred, bound body found on Phetchabun River bank

Nong Phai police in Phetchabun were called after an unidentified, badly burned body bound with wire was found floating at the edge of the Pasak River near farmland in Ban Pho Chon.

The body was swollen from time in the water and its gender could not immediately be determined. A prominent yantra tattoo was visible on the back of the neck, which may assist efforts to establish the person's identity.

Body found beside rice fields

The discovery was reported by the assistant village head of Moo 13, Ban Khlong Krabon, in Ban Pho Chon subdistrict, Nong Phai district.

Police went to the riverbank, surrounded by villagers' rice fields, where they found the charred body. The skull showed signs of burning and wire had been wrapped around the body in three places: the left arm, torso and legs.

The circumstances raised the possibility that the victim may have been deliberately burned in an attempt to conceal their identity.

Fisherman raised the initial alarm

The first person to spot the body said he regularly fishes in the area. He became concerned when fish were not entering his trap as usual and went to investigate.

He initially saw something black in the water and did not realise it was a body. He then noticed an oily residue on the surface and saw wire attached to it.

After pulling on the wire, he realised what he had found, immediately let go and notified the assistant village head.

The fisherman said neither he nor other villagers knew whether the victim was male or female, who the person was, or where the body had floated from. He added that nobody in the village was known to have gone missing.
