Chinese man held in Bangkok over crystal meth

Thai crime suppression police have arrested a 43-year-old Chinese national at a condominium in Bangkok's Huai Khwang district, alleging he sold crystal methamphetamine to fellow Chinese tourists.

Police said they seized 15 bags containing more than 80 grams of crystal meth, commonly known as ice, along with weighing scales, mobile phones and other items. In total, officers listed 20 items as evidence.

The arrest was announced on 14 August under the direction of Pol Maj Gen Phatthanasak Bupphasuwan, commander of the Crime Suppression Division.

Police allege tour co-ordinator sold drugs

The suspect, identified only as Fu, was charged with possessing a Category 1 narcotic, methamphetamine or ice, with intent to sell for commercial purposes. He was also charged with remaining in Thailand after his permission to stay had expired.

According to police, the investigation began after Chinese tourists in Bangkok provided information that some visitors were obtaining and selling drugs within Chinese tourist groups.

Officers said their enquiries identified Fu as a suspected seller of ice to Chinese tourists in Bangkok. After learning that his permitted stay in Thailand had ended, police obtained approval from the Criminal Court to search his room.

Fu reportedly told investigators that he had been in Thailand for about one year, working as a co-ordinator for Chinese tour groups. He allegedly used his contact with Chinese visitors as an opportunity to sell drugs to those seeking them.

Drug supply allegedly bought for 200,000 baht

Police said Fu admitted that the seized drugs had been bought from a Thai agent for 200,000 baht around two weeks before his arrest.

Checks also found that Fu was wanted by authorities in the People's Republic of China in connection with an alleged drug-trafficking case. The warrant relates to allegations that he sold ice to Chinese tourists visiting Thailand in August 2025, police said.

Fu and the seized items have been handed to investigators for legal proceedings. Thai authorities will also take further action connected with the Chinese warrant, according to police.
