Fireworks injure visitors at Lamphun event

Several people, including a family of 3, were injured and suffered burns, after fireworks sparks struck gas-filled balloons and caused an explosion during an event near Tha Nang Gate in Lamphun on 27 September.

The blast happened at about 20:00, during the third night of a fireworks event at the gate, according to the Ha Lamphun Facebook page. Witnesses said sparks fell onto a gas-filled balloon, setting off the explosion.

Panic as officials assist the injured

The explosion caused panic among people attending the event. Officials moved in to help those hurt and took injured people to hospital.

The organiser of Vijit Lamphun said it had accepted responsibility for the incident and was providing care to those injured. It said stricter safety measures would be enforced for upcoming fireworks displays scheduled for 2-4 October.

Authorities have also warned the public not to bring flammable materials or gas-filled balloons near fireworks display areas. They said even small sparks can endanger people and property.

More displays planned from 2 October

Further fireworks shows remain scheduled under VIJIT Thailand @ LAMPHUN, an event organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Displays are due to take place once daily at 20:00 on 2, 3 and 4 October 2026.
