Indonesia has ordered the deportation of a Thai woman accused of running paid beauty massage and face-lifting classes in Jakarta while in the country under a visa-free visit arrangement.
The woman, identified only as PD, was detained after North Jakarta immigration officers said her activities breached the purpose of her permitted stay. She will be returned to Thailand once departure arrangements have been made.
Classes found during immigration checks
PD had entered Indonesia using the Bebas Visa Kunjungan (BVK), Indonesia's visa-free visit scheme. Indonesian media reported that immigration officials concluded her work did not match the reason she was allowed to stay in the country.
Officers encountered her on September 15 while monitoring foreign nationals at the Swiss-Belinn Kemayoran hotel in the Spring Hill Complex on Damar Road, Pademangan Timur, North Jakarta.
Immigration officers alleged that PD was conducting paid training sessions in beauty massage techniques and face lifting. Those attending the classes were charged a fee.
Rendra Mauliansyah, head of the North Jakarta Class I Immigration Office, said the activity was not consistent with the purpose for which PD's stay had been authorised.
Deportation order issued
Following its investigation, the North Jakarta immigration office imposed an administrative immigration measure requiring PD's deportation to Thailand. She was detained while officials prepared for her removal.
Indonesian authorities said the case formed part of broader checks on foreign nationals, intended to ensure visitors comply with the conditions of their visas or stay privileges.
The monitoring is also aimed at preventing visa-free entry, tourist permissions and other visit arrangements from being used for unauthorised employment or commercial work.
