I'm sure the Israeli ambassador would say something, uhhh, diplomatic like, "Tourists of both sexes and any nationality should always wear clothing appropriate for their surroundings."

I agree that female tourists should not wear string bikinis except at the beach or a pool. They should put on a tunic if they go into a store, restaurant or bar that isn't on or very close to the beach.

That said, it's not only Israeli females who don't cover up in Thailand or any other tourist destination with beaches. Women from many countries do the same thing. An unfortunate reality of living in a tourist resort area is that visitors don't always behave or dress appropriately.

I don't know what your experience of the world could possibly be but her status in the

international hierarchy Is a bit higher than some top cops in Thailand.

Every foreigner who visits or works in Thailand is a reflection of their home country. If you act badly and engage in illegal activities, your actions are a direct reflection on your county.

Brit acts badly - it reflects on the UK.
Russian acts badly - it reflects on Russia.
American acts badly - it reflects on the US.
Israeli acts badly - it reflects on Israel.

Every year some foreigners act badly. If multiple instances of foreigners from the same country act badly - it tends to get negative press.

When some kid from Liverpool tags a "sacred wall" with graffiti, it gets press, and most of the time citizens of the UK would denounce the behavior.
When some US couple are caught shagging on the beach, it gets press, and most of the time citizens of the US would denounce the behavior.
When some German gets into a fight with a Thai national tuk-tuk driver and it is obvious that the German started the fight, most of the time German expats would denounce the behavior.
When some Israelis act badly, like busting up an emergency room in Northern Thailand - would citizens of Israel denounce the behavior of their citizens, or claim that Thailand is antisemitic? Fair question. In this case the Israeli embassy commented that Israeli citizens are guests in the country and should respect the laws and norms of Thailand. But my questions is - is Dr Alona Fisher-Kamm seeking to have Thailand censor any critique by non-Israelis by labeling critique of Israeli behavior as "disinformation" or "fake new?"

If your citizens act badly and emissaries of your country want to get involved, then censure your citizens actions and work with Thai authorities to make sure your citizens behave well while living and working in Thailand - don't try to cover it up from the start and suggest Thai authorities should become the front line of censorship if Israeli citizens are caught acting badly.

Personally I have no issues with a gal in a bathing suit in a 7/11 on the beach. It should be expected in beach and island towns. If the employees consider this unacceptable, say something or post clear signs written in proper English asking patrons to cover up.



And I don't know what nationality she is. If she was Israeli, or any other nationality, she'd be welcome to share by beach umbrella and have a beer and relax as we talking about expat sort of stuff.

There are many exceptions of course. but it's one of the great mysteries of the universe that nudists are usually unattractive people.

No one is saying that Israelis behaving badly shouldn't be criticised .

That isn't the topic here .

Israelis behaving badly and receiving publicity is information .

She's Israeli, (speaking Hebrew), just like the other Israeli women who go into this 7/11 on a daily basis without a second of thought as to whether their lack of attire is acceptable by Thai cultural standards. I put it down to total ignorance or total arrogance.

This is not a beach-side 7/11.... and in fairnest, some other nationalities also behave in a similar manner, notably Spanish-speaking - it's just that Phangan has so many Israelis here that the vast majority of 'culprits' are Israeli.

Of course, there are also all the bare-chested young males who can't be bothered to wear a shirt. It should not be down to the 7/11 staff to have to enforce 'common-sense' standards of decency when it comes to customer clothing. Many shops (in many countries) already refuse to serve customers who do not adhere to norms of decency. I'd like to see 7/11 shops follow suit. (And I'm not being an old prude - that woman looks ok, but on a beach, not in a 7/11 2km from the nearest beach...)

It's been reported earlier. Meeting the officials of the host country is part of every diplomat's duties, especially when the health, safety and reputation of the citizens of the diplomat's country are at stake.

What's a bit unusual is that the meetings involving the Israeli ambassador get so much publicity. However, in this case, I'm sure that is exactly what Alona Fisher-Kamm wants. She is reacting to both false information about the number of Israeli tourists in Thailand as well as exaggerated media coverage of some minor incidents involving Israelis.

In Thailand, as in other Asian countries, the importance of a meeting with a foreign official is indicated by the number of people attending. That's quite a few on the Thai side. Local authorities including the police must now be aware of the mistreatment of Israeli tourists on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan.

It's no big thing an Israeli family was denied entry to a small petting zoo. It's much more serious the owner assaulted the father of the family. The owner should face consequences for that.

The intense social media coverage of violent or unpleasant incidents involving Israeli tourists

tends to give the impression such incidents are common when in fact they are very rare, considering the high number of Israelis visiting Thailand.

That's a huge increase from a total of 420,000 in all of 2025. Israelis still see Thailand as an attractive destination for vacations and we will see more and more visiting the Land of Smiles.
