Israeli media have reported that an Israeli citizen was murdered on Koh Phangan on Wednesday evening, 30 September 2026. The victim has not been identified, and there had been no confirmation of the report from Thai authorities and little covered by local Thai media sources.
The report, published by Israeli journalist Itamar Eichner, for Ynetnews, said the circumstances surrounding the killing remained unclear. It did not provide further details about where on the island the death occurred or whether anyone had been detained.
Possible motive under examination
According to the Israeli report, investigators are considering whether the killing may have been ideologically motivated. However, no evidence or further explanation supporting that possibility was immediately made public.
The victim's name has not been released. There was also no information in the Israeli report about a suspected attacker, the method of killing, or the progress of any Thai investigation.
Koh Phangan, in Surat Thani province in the Gulf of Thailand, is a major destination for overseas visitors and long-stay foreigners, including travellers drawn to its beaches and regular Full Moon Party events.
At present, the only available account is the Israeli media report, which was also posted by The Manager Online, which said the motive remained under investigation. Updates will be provided if and when further details become available.
