I admit that when I heard "Seven Nation Army" I was taken aback. But that was an impressive arrangement.
And dancing dogs isn't really a talent, is it?
And for Cowell, how is that marketable if they win? Surely, there's only so much they can do before people lose interest in a few months.

Like them or hate them, members of created bands like One Direction (well, the still-living ones at least) still put out music as solo artists.
Susan Boyle still chucks a out a song or two.

I'd say dancing dogs are a cute trick or circus act, but not really talent anywhere near Nene Royal.

I've always heard AGT and BGT need animal acts to keep viewer numbers high. Animal acts appeal to families with children and these families might switch channels if AGT or BGT only featured singers and dancers. Ventriloquists, magicians, aerialists and other novelty acts like dancing dogs help broaden viewer appeal.

I agree with your statement. The shows have to make money through the phone-in premium SMS charges and advertising income. I understand that.
But geez, it's a bit "county fair" isn't it? A ventriloquist, a bit of sleight of hand guy, Spot The Amazing Border Collie, sometimes a trapeze artist?

Honestly? I also don't watch these shows in their entirety except once I had an old, old friend - a professional musician that had released albums - appear on The Voice (? - the one that had Seal as a judge) once maybe 15 years ago so I watched that via a YouTube episode from Australia. And, no, he got nowhere.

A post on ASEAN Now got me to look up Nene Royal on YouTube a couple of weeks ago for Blackhole Sun.
In any case, if not Cowell himself, some enterprising producer or production company will sign her up and exploit manage her

I hope it goes well for her and he father gets some decent lawyers.

Yeah, I think the best thing that can happen is one of the big acts that is retired finds her and gets her signed to a North American deal. If not, she comes back here, goes to school, and ends up playing in bars and restaurants.

ALL THE BEST JUST TO REACH THE FINALS IS HUGE. Winning is great, but take a page from Susan Boyle; she did not win, and look at how she has gone on to make millions.

Can you imagine her opening for a K-Pop act (BP, BTS, 17) touring SEA?
Or for popular US groups that travel here fairly regularly like Greenday or Maroon 5?

Of course, her English being excellent, she could also tour the US, UK and Europe.

Nene, at the same moment has 5 million. 3.5x more than all the other acts combined.

I can't remember any competition (talent or otherwise) where 1 act stood out this much from the rest.

Yeah, watching her performances it's hard not to get emotional, what a girl!

Rock ’n’ roll is not dead. Nene and Yungblud are the new generation of something I had written off as nostalgia a long time ago. But here they are, and there is more coming.

She looks familiar - there was a talented young girl that I occasionally saw busking on Bangla in Patong a year or so ago, just accompanied by a guy who I think did the backing track. Does anyone know if that was her?

There is 100's of videos of her busking around in Phuket at YouTube.

Well worth mentioning she is only 16, and she writes her own music.

Can you really be a star only doing covers?

OK, well I watched the top contenders and now I get why Nene is heavily favored to win.

The only act that I saw that might beat Nene is aerialist Veronika Goroshkova.

Also keep in mind AGT is not a singing contest per se but more focused on LAS VEGAS acts.
