Thai health authorities are investigating the death of Nigerian-born British businessman Igho "Tiny" Ubiribo after he suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism following a genital hyaluronic acid injection at a Bangkok clinic.
Ubiribo, known online as Ego2222, died in the early hours of 6 March after complaining of chest pain while receiving a massage at the Marriott Hotel. He had remained responsive when taken by ambulance to Samitivej Hospital in central Bangkok, but lost consciousness before doctors could carry out a CT scan.
Westminster Coroner's Court heard that traces of hyaluronic acid, a cosmetic filler, were found in his lungs. His cause of death was recorded as "genital hyaluronic acid injection".
Fifth procedure at Bangkok clinic
The unnamed clinic told authorities that Ubiribo had been a regular patient and had undergone five rounds of injections since 2024. The first four procedures were carried out in 2024 and 2025, while the fifth, and fatal, treatment took place in March this year.
Thailand's Ministry of Health said the patient received 40cc of filler during the 5 March 2026 appointment.
"The doctor recommended dividing the injection into two sessions, but the patient preferred a single injection," the ministry said. It added that he signed consent forms before each treatment, was given post-operative instructions and did not report complications following previous procedures.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and is widely used as a cosmetic filler, including for facial treatments. The ministry has ordered an investigation into the circumstances of Ubiribo's death.
For foreigners considering cosmetic treatment in Thailand, the case is a reminder to check that a clinic and practitioner are properly licensed, ask about the substances and dosage being used, and seek urgent medical help if chest pain, breathing difficulties or other serious symptoms develop after a procedure.
Son questions circumstances after death
Ubiribo's 21-year-old son, Junior, told the Daily Mail that he did not believe his father needed penis enlargement treatment and questioned whether the family had received a full account of his final hours.
"No one [in the family] believes that the procedure was the cause of his death," he said. "He didn't have a micro penis, he didn't have anything to be ashamed of."
Junior said he learned of the inquest only afterwards, when documents were sent to his aunt by Ubiribo's British-born partner, Danielle Simba Allen. Ms Allen joined the hearing by video call with her camera switched off, according to the report.
The family says it sought a second post-mortem examination in London, but was told this would be of limited value because Ubiribo had been embalmed twice. They have also reported concerns to the Metropolitan Police and contacted lawyers, while acknowledging there is no evidence of foul play in his death.
Dispute over assets and contact
Junior said he and his siblings had received no information about their father's belongings, assets or any will. He said Ms Allen had stopped taking the family's calls; the Daily Mail said it was unable to contact her.
Ubiribo, a father of eight, had lived in Bangkok with Ms Allen in an apartment before his death. He was buried in a gold coloured coffin, after a London funeral in May at Mortlake Cemetery, west London.
Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency had in April 2023 declared Ubiribo, Ms Allen and another woman wanted for questioning over allegations concerning an international drug-trafficking ring.
