Phuket police probe death of Russian pedestrian

Thai police have identified the woman killed in a multiple-vehicle collision while crossing the road on 20 July 2026, on Phuket's Thepkrasattri Road as 42-year-old Russian national Irina Sukhorukova.

Police said Sukhorukova was crossing the road early in the morning at a point where there was no pedestrian overpass when she was hit by a Toyota Hilux Revo pickup truck. The pickup driver left without stopping to assist her, according to investigators.

Police examine possible further impacts

Investigators believe Sukhorukova was then run over by two further vehicles after the initial collision.

One of those vehicles was an ambulance carrying another patient, police said. None of the drivers stopped at the scene, and Sukhorukova's body was later found on the roadway.

Authorities are working to confirm the precise order in which the vehicles struck her and to determine each driver's involvement.

Police have identified all drivers connected with the case, but no charges have yet been filed.

Investigation remains under way

The investigation is continuing as Phuket police seek to reconstruct what happened on Thepkrasattri Road and assess the available evidence.

Thepkrasattri Road is one of Phuket's principal north-south routes, used by residents, tourists and airport-bound traffic. For foreign residents and visitors, the case underlines the practical risks of attempting to cross major roads away from designated crossings, particularly in the early morning or after dark.

No further details were provided on when charges, if any, might be brought. Police have not yet stated the final findings of their ongoing inquiry.
