Phuket probes Chabad House Patong business links

Phuket Governor Chotinrin Kerdsom says preliminary inquiries into Chabad House in Patong have identified links to two related companies with combined assets of about 261.58 million baht.

The business network has six locations across Phuket, including offices in Cherng Talay, Thalang, and four additional branches elsewhere on the island, according to the governor.

Provincial authorities are examining the full range of activities connected to the two legal entities, including property operations, tour businesses and other commercial ventures.

The review follows public complaints and concerns over the Patong site. Officials are checking company registrations, operating licences and compliance with relevant regulations.

Governor Chotinrin said the investigation is not confined to one issue. It will cover the use of buildings and land, business licensing, company ownership arrangements and the activities conducted at the premises.

"We must examine every aspect carefully to determine whether any legal violations have occurred," he said. "Our approach is based strictly on the law and the facts of each case. The investigation is comprehensive and not limited to any single issue."

Ownership arrangements under review

Preliminary information indicates the two companies have three principal directors: two Thai nationals and one Israeli national.

However, the governor said a detailed examination of the ownership structure is continuing. Authorities will determine whether the shareholding arrangements and the companies' operations comply with Thai law.

The province has said public safety, public order and the suitability of the operations in their local setting will be priorities in the inquiry.

This follows an on-site inspection on 15 September, after which Phuket authorities said they would gather complete information before drawing conclusions.
