Police Officer Shoots & Kills Cannabis Shop Owner off Walking Street Pattaya

A police officer shot and killed a cannabis shop owner off Walking Street in Pattaya in the early hours of 19 April 2026, following a reported alcohol-fuelled confrontation. The victim, 41-year-old Pattathorn, was shot twice in the torso and later died in hospital despite emergency treatment.

Police were alerted at 01:05 to reports of gunfire and a seriously injured person behind a cannabis shop at 104/3 off Walking Street, South Pattaya, Chon Buri. Pol Lt Col Peerayut Borisuttham, an inspector at Pattaya City Police Station, informed his superior, Pol Col Anek Sarathongyu, before arriving with officers and rescue volunteers.

At the scene, officers found the victim lying critically injured and struggling to breathe while friends attempted to keep him conscious. Rescue workers provided first aid and had to perform CPR before rushing him to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The suspect was detained at the scene and identified as a police officer attached to Pattaya City Police Station, though his name has not been disclosed. Officers seized a handgun and ammunition as evidence and secured the area with police crime tape to prevent public access.

Witnesses told police the suspect appeared heavily intoxicated and had been brandishing a firearm, threatening people in the area. He reportedly fired into an entertainment venue, although no one was injured in that incident.

The victim had attempted to intervene and asked the suspect to put the weapon away, despite there being no prior argument between them. The suspect later followed him and then fired two shots at the victim, causing him to collapse.

The shooting occurred during Songkran/Wan Lai festivities in Pattaya, a period known for large crowds and heightened activity. The incident has raised concerns about public safety and conduct during the festival period.

Pol Col Anek Sarathongyu has ordered an investigation team to gather evidence and proceed with legal action against the suspect. Authorities have not yet released further details on charges or disciplinary measures. Officials are expected to continue their investigation, including reviewing witness statements and forensic evidence, as the case moves forward through the legal process.

Many, many, many tourist visit Pattaya and have a great time, and have no problems.

Thinking an area with tons of Bars, girls, and tourist looking to have a good time and expecting everyone to behave is just not realistic or the reality of the city.

Just be thankful we have a Mayor who really does want to make Pattaya better and is not another seat warmer

Why does it look like the shop owner points a gun at the cop and then appears to have a gun in his right hand when he staggers away ?

There is an old and sad joke about a group of people smoking in a cannabis cafe and a fight broke out -- JOKE -- there is almost NEVER violence associated with cannabis consumption. Alcohol is an entirely different story, and a much, much worse drug than cannabis. Now I am seeing lots of research on Cannabis CBD helping middle-aged women with menopause complications. Nothing healthy has ever been linked to alcohol.

These cops should be made to lock up guns in safe at police station.

Why?

The handguns they have are personal purchase, not employer issued.

Video is a little confusing t me. Looks like the victim ended up with the gun in his hand as he staggers away? So, he was shot by the guy sitting down with the dark t-shirt, managed to get the gun off him, then staggered away and collapsed? Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Guns and alcohol just aren't a good mix, never ends well.

Red wine in moderation is actually good for health. Many of the Blue Zone residents drink it daily, and live longer than everyone on average. Moderate means just that though. Alcohol is definitely a bad thing in the wrong hands, or if too much is used. Weed usually doesn't cause problems and usually calms the user.

True about handguns, they need to buy their own. Rifle, shotguns and assault are issued to the stations.

That is almost correct.

For several years, when I worked as a volunteer with the Thai Tourist Police in Chiang Rai and Khon Kaen, my colleague officers purchased their own hand guns. I was offered to apply for one in Chiang Rai but I declined - not my scene! More recently standardised hand guns are being issued.

Reference Google

Historically, Royal Thai Police (RTP) officers were not provided with standard-issue service pistols and were required to purchase their own, often paying for them through salary deductions. However, in recent years, the government has introduced "welfare gun" projects to supply officers with new, standardized weapons.

They got that right. Doesn’t get much more serious than murder

And yet most officers I see have them holstered on their hip. Whether officially “issued” or not, they all seem to have them and presumably they all licensed by the authorities

No they haven't. Stop being a white knight. Do you also say that when its repeated ad nauseum when these kinds of events happen ? No you don't. Not a week goes by where that drivel is trotted out and we are reminded that the image of some place in thailand is being effected.

Smh. What a joke your comment is.

And the back end story goes something like this. His family is devastated after they all saved for years, for their relative to buy into the police dept. and become a corrupt mafia member. Now all that money and their meal ticket gone.

Unless they can come up with a few hundred million to pay off the victims family and exonerate the sweet mistreated policeman.

Do get down off that shaky soapbox. The fact that the victim had a cannabis shop keeps getting mentioned but I have yet to see it is relevant.
