Russian man, 19, hospitalised after Phuket self harm incident

A 19-year-old Russian man is receiving close medical care at Vachira Phuket Hospital after an emergency at a house in Phuket's Sam Kong area on Tuesday morning.

Kathu Police were notified at about 10am on 11 August that a foreign man had attempted to harm himself at a home and had been assisted before being taken to hospital. Police said the circumstances remain under investigation.

Officers informed Kathu Police Station chief Pol. Col. Chalermchai Hoensawat before travelling to the house at Pruksa Ville Sam Kong village, 48/105 Soi 4, Moo 5, Kathu subdistrict.

Partner sought help after early-morning argument

At the property, officers spoke with the man's female partner, who identified him as Roman Popov, 19, a Russian national.

She told police that the couple had argued from about 4am. She said he subsequently showed behaviour indicating repeated attempts to harm himself, leading her to intervene and seek help from others.

Just before 10.00am, she found him with a rope around his neck, she tried to assist him and called for help.

Rescuers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation arrived and carried out CPR at the house. Popov was then moved to an ambulance, where emergency treatment continued before he was transported to Vachira Phuket Hospital.

Police continue inquiries

Police are questioning those involved as they examine what happened. Doctors are continuing treatment and assistance for Popov, who remains under close medical supervision.
