Thailand Launches Digital Immigration App to Speed Up Border Processing

Thailand’s Immigration Bureau has introduced a new mobile application aimed at reducing arrival processing times for international visitors while maintaining security checks at the country’s borders.

Digital arrival cards replace paperwork

The new system, known as the Thailand Immigration Management System (THIM), allows foreign travellers to complete arrival card information digitally before reaching Thailand.

Available on both Apple and Android devices, the application uses AI-powered passport scanning to complete a one-time registration process. Future visits will require only limited updates, reducing the amount of information travellers need to submit each time they enter the country.

Immigration officials say the system is designed to cut processing times at border checkpoints to less than three minutes.

Focus on security and efficiency

The platform was developed by Digital Identity Co., Ltd in partnership with Thailand’s Immigration Bureau and operates on cloud infrastructure hosted within Thailand through Amazon Web Services' Bangkok region.

Officials said the project was designed to improve efficiency without compromising border security. Traveller data will remain within Thailand in accordance with national legal requirements, while the digital platform is intended to strengthen identity verification and screening procedures.

The bureau has stressed that faster processing will not come at the expense of security measures, which remain a central part of the immigration process.

Expansion planned

Immigration authorities plan to expand the capabilities of the THIM platform beyond arrival registration.

Future updates are expected to include online visa extension services and digital 90-day reporting for foreign residents. Officials also aim to introduce automated border clearance for a wider range of nationalities.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort to modernise immigration services as Thailand continues to handle large numbers of international arrivals each year.

Unveiled at technology summit

The new system was presented during the AWS Summit 2026 in Bangkok, where officials outlined the role of cloud technology in supporting the country's immigration operations.

Thailand receives around 30 million international visitors annually, and authorities believe digital processing will help reduce congestion at border checkpoints while improving the overall travel experience.

Pol Maj Gen Pratya Prasarnsuk, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, said the bureau remains focused on balancing traveller convenience with the security responsibilities required at the country's borders.

Been through all of that and more. I keep hoping that the next time I try I will be successful. Whatever is ‘buggy’ is on their side, not mine and an IO even confirmed that for me.

When you do online reporting, do you receive the "FORM FOR ALIEN TO NOTIFY OF STAYING LONGER THAN 90 DAYS RECEIVED" e mail notification? If so, your report has been received and the denial is because of and error in the data. If not, the error is in your computer configuration. Do you see that it would be just about impossible for hundreds of 90 day reports to be done online via the immigration system, and just yours "having a bug / error" from the immigration side? You seem to be resisting many people trying to help you, so perhaps, you only posted this to complain?

I'm flying back to BKK next Friday (May 5) I d/l the THIM yesterday and filled it all in, I just have to wait 72 hours before departure to fill in the health declaration and that will complete the THIM. I guess I still have to do a TDAC and will do that same time as I complete the THIM (3 days before leaving) As I have a Non-Imm retirement ext and a multi-reentry visa I guess I'll still have to see an IO when I get to Immigration at Swampy nest Friday, surely they'll need to stamp my PP? Anyway, I'll find out everything next Friday.

Why should it be necessary for me to tell the Thai authorities every 90 days that I still live in the same condo (that I own) that I have been living in for the past four years? Why can't the law be: We will assume that you are living at your last reported address - unless you tell us otherwise.

Why? Because this is Thailand where, often, things operate in a reverse way. In the real world you inform the authorities if there is a change. In Thailand you need to do the opposite and inform them that nothing has changed.

Not that they ever check anything anyway. All I do is hand over my passport, a junior member of staff stamps it and pins my next pointless appointment date in it and I'm out of there in minutes. No-one even asks me anything, such as prove you're at the same address as 90 days ago. And I'm sure everyone else experiences the same. I'm amazed they still want to persist in the pantomime as they implement changes.

Maybe the app asks for proof? I always appear in person at the Kalasin office I use as 1 - it rarely has more than two or three 'customers', 2 - it's well under an hour from home, 3 - wife and I can stock up in Big C and Makro, 4 - I have the time to do it and 5 - the staff are a jolly bunch, always smiling and joking with each other.

If you complete the THIM and get the QR code then you have no need to do the TDAC as well, it is the same thing. Of course you will get stamped in by an IO, nothing at all has changed in that respect. For the moment it is simply a new way to complete the TDAC.

So now in addition to immigration, 5G networks and fiber optic are three times faster in Thailand than they are in America at a third the price, that's what I call progress.

Once you reach the undersea cable, the speeds significantly decrease. The US has much better connectivity.

The TDAC is quite quick. A bit of a pain, but not a major hassle. I'll stick with TDAC until THIN is formally rolled out and working with all its bells and whistles. A real game changer would be for THIN to include our residencies so we don't have to do TM30 on every arrival.

What's wrong with never leaving Thailand. I like it, here. I am comfortable. I haven't been out of Thailand since I went to Singapore back in 2016. I can't count all the new gizmos, forms, apps, websites, and codes that have come and gone since then. I've avoided all of them.

I was talking about those who bellyache about any new entry/exit procedures but never leave the country. I also said "you know who you are", so unless I have missed your bellyaching about any new entry/exit procedures, I am happy for you and your moan-free long stay.

My take is this if you don't like the laws of a country simply don't go there. Do you think that Muslim countries would allow alcohol, of course not. So do your homework and check the for finer points before you make your decision as to where you spend your next vacation. As for me I'm an expat and I've been living in Thailand for the past 25 years. If I was single I'd by pass Thailand as it's no where near as good as it used to be. Keep your options open and enjoy your holiday.

Played around with the THIM app and upload "manager" info: PP, adresse etc and all work really well. Quite impressed when entering home country all cities where immediately ready (scrool function)

After entering manager and travel details hime page will change show the txt "awaiting health declaration in xx hours" and immediately after an email was received. All in all a very impressive tool Im confident can be even more impressive when further devaloped and more functions added.

Yes, I saw this and actually, I got a bit nervous.

I can't recall having ever read a similar message in any other app I installed.

Now, I got the app through the Apple store and I trust that Apple takes privacy serious, so I continued the installation.

Still feel a bit uneasy and might deinstall later until this point is cleared.

That has not been my experience over the course of the past decade. I go back to the US often and the speeds are consistently slower both with fiber optic and with 5G, and I do a lot of traveling and that's almost always the case.

In Thailand I enjoy blazing fast speeds all over the country on my 5G and ridiculous speeds at home with fiber, not the case in the US, as America is far behind.

Actively using the THIM app for my upcoming trip it continues to impress. After downloading personal information and trip details (which can be done at any time before the travel) I received a mail this morning reminding it was time for the healt declaration which simply ask for countries visited last 14 days. QR code followed instantly and thats it, all thats needed to clear IM conveniently in one place.

So it actually does work as a direct replacement for the TDAC?

Were you asked to show the QR code at Immigration? With the TDAC, nothing is requested.

The TDAC is an integrated, and instant, function in the THIM app which, I assume, will automatically be visable to the officer's when they scan the PP. I wont arrive until the 4th and update my experiences

Yes. I couldn't find in the Australian Google Play. I thought of changing but am afraid of being stick for 90 days.

I am stupid but I can't understand why an app for foreign tourism entry is mainly only available in the country that foreigners are travelling to.

Info about type of phone may explain why some are experience issues. For now TDAC works perfectly, and likely will in the future. The benefits THIM has, when its fully devaloped, integrate a lot of function that atm is spread across multiple apps and platforms.

I don't believe Redmi phones are running 'standard' Android, but rather a custom version of it by Xiaomi. That may be the issue.

Used THIM for the TDAC and just past IM at Swampi and they didn't ask to see the QR.

BTW it was airy quiet at the airport and no queue at all at either of the 2 IM checkpoint

Amazon delivers. 😄 Best of all, at least for giving me reason to chortle at the expected multiple conniptions of some people, Amazon incorporates Israeli technology for its networking and security . 🫡
