BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has praised a researcher at Naresuan University for his outstanding research work on Mahachanok mango which was found to have substances resistant to cancer and reduce risk of heart diseases and vision problems.

Government spokesman Lt-Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd was referring to Dr Peerasak Chaiprasart, a lecturer of the faculty of agriculture, Naresuan University, who earned the praise from the prime minister.

According to the spokesman, the prime minister hopes that this research work by Dr Peerasak, would, in the future, add more value to Mahachanok mango which will be demanded in the market and help earn more revenue for mango growers.

I very rarely have seen mahachanok mango's in BKK, where do they sell them? My guess is they go for export.

Mostly sour mangoes have great health benefits. Not only the Mahachanok mangoes.

After the Ebola cure comes one for macular degeneration and cancer and heart attacks.  Is there no end to Thailand's contribution to the world's health?

They are the world leaders in innovative cures for disease, international sports competitions, film awards, drama awards, literature, journalism, nuclear research, botanical inventions, pharmaceutical progress, traffic safety, crime solving, the fight against corruption, human trafficking, slavery, and the development of contemporary cultural, and awareness of such. As well as the environment, and sustainable energy development.

In the dreams of a few rather silly and churlish men.

  • The researchers found that introducing methyl jasmonate to pre-harvest mangoes boosted their levels of Vitamin C, glucose, fructose, sucrose and carotenoid.
  • Methyl jasmonate plus ethephon, both of which are safe and leave no residues, increased the carotenoid level by 50 per cent.
  • Methyl jasmonate in combination with specific amounts of light created a redder skin on mangoes 90 days after blooming, boosting the level of anthocyanin.

Whether higher consumption of carotenoid and anthocyanin is medically beneficial remains to be scientifically confirmed, ie., clinical trials.

Well compared to it's neighbours Thailand achieves a lot more...Still nothing compared to the West but hey you can't expect that.

Praised be the mango....

Both Indonesia and Malaysia are far more dynamic and progressive than Thailand on countless levels. And Indonesia is far stronger economically. Sure, stronger than Laos, Burma and Cambodia. But, what does that mean? Not much of a comparison. A better comparison might be the Thailand of 15 years ago, and the Thailand of today. 22nd largest economy in the world before. Barely 30th, today.

So there is no new improved mahachanok?? Well another scam was born in that case.

Mahachanok really smells like carrots though, it's sure different than namdocmai.
