(Reuters) - The tensions between the European Union and Britain are heightening as the European Union will soon ask Britain to take responsibility for solving the Irish border problems, according to documents leaked to the Guardian.

Michel Barnier, the European Union's chief negotiator, will ask Britain to work out "solutions" that avoid the creation of a hard border with Ireland, the newspaper also reported. (http://bit.ly/2wHuFd1)

The news comes after the Guardian earlier reported, based on a draft memo it reviewed, that Britain is considering measures to restrict immigration for all but the highest-skilled EU workers.

The British government and the European Union were not immediately available for comment.

This is an EU UK border, the UK and Ireland have already stated they want to retain the special relationship they have had way before the EU was formed, so it is now up to the EU whether to allow that to happen, is this Mr Barnier really this stupid or what is he trying to do, this decision is now very clearly one for the EU to decide on

Is anybody getting really tired of listening to this twisted dumbass

Non of EU's business!

I would agree on the internals of N Ireland and the Peace process and Good Friday agreement - nothing to do with the EU and never has been - but the issue is over a UK EU border (read above post)

Is this not where the problem lies and possibly one of the reasons folk are fed up with the EU and people voted to leave?

Why should it be up to the fresh air thieves in Brussels what Ireland does with it's own border.  It is after all Irelands border and not Brussels border.  Does Ireland not have sovereignty of its own country and borders?   Therefore it should be able to decide along with the UK on what is does with its own border.

Or is this just another example of the EU sticking its nose in to other countries problems again and possibly another reason why people voted to leave.

yes I agree with everything you have said but that is not the point of what this idiot Barnier is saying, the UK and Ireland have already worked out what they want for the border between Ireland and the UK, Barnier is ignoring that fact (stirring shit up making an issue when there isn't one), it is now in fact up to the EU to decide if they will allow a special border arrangement between Ireland (an EU member State) and the UK an none EU country which (as has already been pointed out by the UK) is in fact part of the customs and trade talks which are not being allowed to take place right now, Ireland and the UK have already made very clear what they want - Barnier seems to be ignoring that.

I am beginning to think this Barnier has lost it
