yang123
As I understand the government-speak at https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-payment https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-allowance and https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-support-payment payment of Bereavement Allowance (formerly Widows' Pension) and the one-off Bereavement Payment were restricted to spouses of those who died prior to 6 April 2017. The replacement Bereavement Support Payment is payable only to those whose spouses die after 6 Aril 2017 and who live "in the UK or a country that pays bereavement benefits" (last link). Thailand does not appear in the DWP list of such countries, so I'm concluding that my UK national wife won't get a penny after I croak. (Her intention is to remain resident in Thailand). Is this correct? Thanks in advance. Link to comment
Route21mkII
I suspect many, many UK expats resident in Thailand are totally unaware that, on their death in Thailand, their wife (apparently Thai or otherwise) now not only loses their husband's UK Government pension but gets no widow's pension or any other financial support whatsoever from the UK Government! If more expats were aware of it, maybe it might have been brought to Boris' attention on his recent visit? https://www.gov.uk/bereavement-support-payment bsp1.pdf bsp1-notes.pdf Link to comment
