Hello,

This my first post and I would really appreciate any help and advice anyone may have. I met my partner in Thailand last March we spent 2 weeks together before I returned home. We have been in contact daily since. I would like to see her again and see if we have a future. Therefore we are in the process of applying for a holiday visa for 4 weeks. She lives with her parents and has a small business. I have been sending her money and hope that she will have about 80,000 baht together in her account before she applies for visa. My questions are:

1. She is applying for a visa so I presume that what I have in my account at the time is irrelevant?.

2. If she is applying for the visa does this mean I am not sponsoring her?

3. Is 4 weeks too long to ask for?. I just figure it's a long way to come for just a fortnight.

4. I have asked my landlord for a letter saying it's okay for my girlfriend to saying she can stay and have sent a copy of the lease also. Will this be enough?. Do I need photos?.

5. Also proof of contact, as we message quite a bit every day that's no problem I was thinking a screenshot a day from Facebook is that Okay?.

Lastly I'm aware that we have spent only a fortnight together, but I have heard of others who have gotten a holiday visa. What are my chances?.

As you're posting from the UK I assume you're girlfriend wants to visit you there, is that correct?

1. Your girlfriend would have to apply, she's the one who will be applying for a visa and it's she that has to convince the Entry Clearance Officer that her visit is genuine, affordable and that, on the balance of probabilities, she will the UK at the conclusion of her stated visit, she will need to apply for a Standard Visit Visa.
Yes, the amount you have in your account is irrelevant, unless of course you are providing financial support in which case you will need to demonstrate that you have the means to so.

2. If she is paying for everything herself then she doesn't need a sponsor, but she will have to demonstrate that the trip is affordable and to do so she will need to provide bank statements for a six month period together with the source of her income, the 80,000 Baht you are sending to pad the account will probably not be taken into consideration.

3. I wouldn't think that four weeks is really too long to visit, she will need to declare what she intends doing during those four weeks and demonstrate she has the funds to support herself during that period. You mention that she has a business, she will need to inform the decision maker of the details of the business as well as who would be managing it in her absence.

4. A letter from your landlord confirm that it's ok for her to stay with you, along with a description of your property would be sufficient .If you have a lease you could stick it in for good measure but don't include photos, the UKVI specifically say not to.

5, Screenshots of messages would be ok, ECO's do live in the real world.

Will she get approved, that's the $1m question. You seem to want to pad her account to demonstrate the trip is affordable, you don't seem to want to disclose your account details, you've been in her company for two weeks, she lives at home with her parents and wants to visit you for a month, she will need to put in a fairly robust application, but she could be successful - good luck.

Hello thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I have no problem disclosing my account details but in truth I don't have a lot of money. Yes she lives at home but has a business. With regard the money if we do don't work out it would be nice if she was okay. So the money is hers really.  I guess there is only one way to find out. Fingers crossed. Thanks again.

My then GF was granted a visit visa for a month back in 2015 after we'd known each other for four months but I had been to Thailand three times in that period.

A stupid question for you. If she has a successful business why are you sending her money? Especially as you say you have little money. By the sounds of it you are not going to sponsor her visa. Is the 80,000 baht the money you are sending her and her business money totally separate?  I remember saying a month in the UK for my GF would cost me around £2000 with trips to the coast, London etc on my wife's first visit visa. 80,000 doesn't go that far in the UK. Especially if it includes the flight costs.

Padding a bank account for a GF in Thailand can cause a visit visa to be refused. You need to be very careful. The ECO could say that your GF relies on your money to live. The reason I asked the questions in the last paragraph.

She will need to show three things in her visa application. Proof of relationship, the ability to pay of the trip and a reason to return to Thailand.

there seems to be a contradiction, if she has a successful business why does she need your money? i have dated many women with their own business they have cars (sometimes more than one) nice apartments or houses and often take foreign holidays. if she has her own business surely she could easily show her strong financial position and a valid reason to return to thailand. it's better to show her real situation rather than one created by you i.e. putting money into her account.

I can't see anywhere where the OP says his girlfriends business is actually successful, just that she has a small business.

I'll say again though, if she has a business she needs to demonstrate who would run it whilst she's away for a month.
As rasg and have said, padding an account is not a good move, especially if your funds are low.
