Featured Replies

The National Police have unveiled plans to crack down on robberies and bag snatching. National Police Chief Neth Savoeun on Friday led a meeting at the Interior Ministry in which he announced the crackdown.

After the meeting, spokesman Kirth Chantharith said bag snatching continued to plague the city. “These cases, although not armed robbery or murder, are still dangerous,” he said.

“Some victims get pulled off their bikes, breaking their legs or arms, so we must crack down on this. The National Police has to set up a plan to solve this problem.” Nhem Chan Tina, a 31-year-old Phnom Penh resident, said she was injured when a thief snatched her bag in 2016.

wasn't there a crackdown on promises promised before?

Uh-huh.  Yeah.  OK.   I suppose those who find "small steps in the right direction" somehow a comfort, will find this "announcement" satisfying.  But I suspect we'll still be reading about snatchings years on from now.   Announcements of "plans", like this, are for social media and prospective tourist consumption.
