My Non-immigrant type O visa expires while in California, how to renew

Featured Replies

I left Thailand with a re-entry permit but my non-immigrant Type O visa on family grounds will expire just prior to my return, how can I renew. I went to Thai consulate LA website, many things have changed, I have done this before and no problems but seems more complicated now and seems to be restricted to residents in Ca, or neighboring states, while I'm just visiting on ESTA visa.

All responses appreciated.

When does the visa expire.

I assume you have a Non O visa and not an extension.

In any event you have a reentry permit so cannot apply for anything until the reentry permit expires

you can't renew it at all.. If you're outside the country when a permission to stay until stamp expires you lose it

You would buy a NEW 90 day Non-O visa based on visiting family online thru the eVisa system BEFORE you wing your way back here, then once you're here you'll burn down 2 months of the 90 day stamp and apply for a year extension at the immigration office where you get your extensions
Most likely you want this choice on the eVisa website

EDIT; As long as you're in the US legally and can show proof you're living in a state that is served by the thai consulate you're applying thru you should be able to use the eVisa online system and apply, you don't need to be permanent resident to apply for a 90 day Non-O visa just proof you're legally in the country at the time of the application

Many thanx TD.

The US doesnt stamp passport, the only proof I entered legally is the I-94, show below but doesnt include my name only my passport # and country. The only evidence that this is from the us govt is the web address at the bottom of page.

..so nobody states the obvious...

Get yer ass on a plane back to BKK, and renew, then fly back... Easily done in a week

RT from SFO running about $800... (ANA, Asian, United)...

Ridiculous solution IMO.

It's easy process to obtain a Non O eVisa.

The OP needs to clarify if he has a valid Non O (doubt it) or more likely a permit (permission of stay)

Either way if that's due to expire he can easily start over with new Non O

Get a copy of the I94 from online. That shows your name, your passport number, and everything else. Here is a copy of my spouse's I94.
