Pink lungs don't have to pay anything, it is smokers lungs who have to contribute to society costs.

If you live in a large town or a city I can guarantee you don't have pink lungs.

It won't be Visa runs to Cambodia it will be Fags and Booze runs.

the amount it would cost me to drive to the border and back will be more than the increase of ciggies and beer at my local mom and pop shop.

£4.30 for Budweiser 300ml in UK supermarkets and that is for 6 bottles.

Why wait till Saturday to give the price increase, Sunday day off maybe

I heard dogs piss is only 3 quid for 6 bottles.

Get real! The fundamental reason is to extract as much money as you can from anyone you can get it from, especially foreigners.

I, for one, will be watching, not paying, from the vantage point of another country where a beer costs me 15 baht.

Along with my cheap beer in one hand will be a roll-your-own...in the other hand. #FUThailand

And if that vantage point happens to be a neighbouring country....good luck to you - you're welcome to it and all that entails.

I don't base my reason for living anywhere on the price of booze or smokes and I use both drugs.

But I am not a poverty stricken balloon chasing pensioner!

Good guys in, cheap charlies out!

All I can say is Vietnam emoji1264.png and Cambodia emoji1061.png better start building bigger airports as they will have a massive increase in tourism. Thailand doesn't seem to want visitors any more . Thais don't drink beer wine and spirits. They drink there own brew , which is cheaper than water , and sends them crazy.

Obviously you don't socialise with the locals.

Well if they raise the tax on alcohol high enough we might all become balloon chasers...

I think by that time there won't be any balloons to chase.....the bars will have closed and the girls gone home.

That'll be a sad day.

I wasn't really having a go at pensioners and I apologise if it sounded over the top, but some of the posts on this thread are a bit much. People saying they are going to move countries because of an increase in the cost of a beer or a packet of smokes I find ridiculous.

As stated I use both smokes and booze but my reason for being in Thailand goes much deeper than the cost of having a beer and a smoke.

Well- here it is Saturday and no notice of the new excise tax or how it will affect consumers. The reporting on this issue  by the media has been dismal. Either the tax is so complex no one can figure it out or they simply don't care to ask. Typical Thai response to everything- I'll worry about it tomorrow.  As far as I am concerned- if the bars put the cost p more than I think is fair- I won't be drinking. One bar I know of  has already raised their wine prices by 20%.  Ridiculous.

I think many smokers might draw the line at 100 baht a pack..

Below 100 baht a pack smoking can be viewed as a hobby above 100 baht a pack smoking might be viewed as a financial burden...

they could just buy vape online, still cheap

And if you do it front of policeman that is short on tea money for the month those few saved baht will vaporize very quickly.

up to you though, I can still afford to fund my habits so need to to look for alternative methods just yet.

Since tax rates were supposed to be published in the Royal Gazette last Friday (yesterday) ahead of implementation Saturday (today), why is there still great debate about what the actual tax increases entail?

I guess we will all have to troop off to the local Big C for some clarity on this matter.

Yes this is clearly done because of the subs well seen, can't be because of the massive debt of the rice program.. can't be because the health program is costing more and more.. can't be because Thailand has a small tax base.... must be the subs. Well spotted.

If it were due to the rice program they wouldn't be buying subs now would they.
