In the past decade beer &;Smoke tax in Thailand & prices the bars charge has sky rocketed.  1ST they said since bar operating times has been minimized/ prices had to raise up to keep some profits.  Then the alcohol companys even lowered the percentage of alcohol in there beers due to sell more beer or unknown reason,  now more & more tax. With 30 + million tourists people will always buy but Thailand is supposed to be land of smiles where Beer Smokes is cheap this should be brought up to government & thais be able to afford it too

Liquor wholesaler  near the corner of Thepprasit and thrapraya already stockpiling their beer. Went into today to buy some Leo. They said come back tomorrow cannot buy today. 

Told them to shove their business. Went to Makro and paid normal price. 

not sure if its been mentioned - Australia has free trade agreements with Thailand and in that there is wine taxes. Australia has a main export of wine.

 

I am interested to see how this one plays out as will Australia tax some of the benefits afforded to Thailand in Australia?

 

To tax on the RRP and the CIF price if what i have read is true is extremely optimistic in raising revenue. However in the same vein the increase in tourism if what i have read is true may be due to Thailand being an affordable place to eat and drink.

 

Maybe Mr Trump might as a major wine producing country choose to enforce the balance of trade with Thailand? As USA imports far more more Thai produce than Thailand imports USA produce.

Imported wine is already at about 250% tax. An increase would be unfair to the few wine drinking tourists who may still come to Thailand

Like I said in the other thread, nobody can afford to drink normal wine of decent quality at these prices, that just make no sense.

 

More people, who NEED they daily dose will turn to the fruit wine, what nobody knows what is in it, and that sure is not healthier, and with more sugar too.  So this taxes make you less healthy, if you want to drink  something.

 

I also have nothing against beer, but the gaz in it, upset my stomach and get more reflux.  Nice stay in land of smile, without a nice relaxing glass.  And as for the locals, what will happen? We all talk about beer and wine, but we know in f&act they get drunk on whiskey.  So there will be always someone , who will offer local shit, that is not taxed, and get them completely out of their minds.

Makro was very busy,with folks loading up their barrows with cases

of beer,never seen many buying cigarettes,wont bother me,as i dont

drink alcohol or smoke,hopefully heavy users of both will cut back or

quit altogether,better for their health.
