Extent a METV

I read that you can extend a METV to 9 months. I have only been in Thailand for 4 weeks. How exactly do you extend a 6 months visa to 9 months? Cheers.

You can not extend the visa but you can get total stay of almost 9 months from it.

You can get a new 60 day entry from it by doing an entry on or before the enter before date on the visa (6 months from the date of issue) and then extend it for 30 days at an immigration office.

Is that from the date I entered Thailand, or the date the visa was issued?

You can't. Thai visas do not specify the time you can spend in the the country, but the date by which you can make the last entry.

 

Each time you enter you're granted permission to stay for 60 days. If you make a final entry on or just before the visas expiry date you'll get a final 60 day permit to stay. Towards the end of the 60 days you can apply to extend your stay by 30 days for 1,900 baht.

 

A total stay of nearly nine months is achieved by making the first entry as close to the visas issue date and the final entry as close to it's expiry date.
