Rachentharayan, Rachentharayan Noi Palanquins ready for rehearsals

BANGKOK, 15 September 2017 (NNT) – The Royal Palanquin with Four Poles, otherwise known as Rachentharayan Palanquin, and its replica called Rachentharayan Noi Palanquin are being prepared for use in the rehearsals of the royal cremation ceremony.

Director-General of the Fine Arts Department Anant Chuchote presided over a ceremony to move Rachentharayan and Rachentharayan Noi Palanquins to the Royal Garage of the National Museum Bangkok. The Director-General first lit candles and incense sticks and laid garlands before the palanquins, which were then carried by officials of the Army Ordnance Department and the Office of Traditional Arts onto military trucks for transportation.

The relocation was to bring the two palanquins to the Royal Garage for the worshipping ceremony for royal carriages and palanquins which will take place this September 21 as well as rehearsals for the royal cremation ceremony thereafter.

Over the past nine months, the Office of Traditional Arts has been occupied with the restoration of Rachentharayan Palanquin and the construction of its new replica, which will respectively be used to carry the Golden Royal Urn and the royal ashes of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
