Govt shrugs off “national unity government” proposal

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has never said anything about the formation of a “national unity government” after the next election as the issue was raised by the political sector, not the government, Lt Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said on Saturday (Sept 16).

The government spokesman was referring to an idea floated by Bhichai Rattakul, a former Democrat Party leader, who proposed that three parties form an alliance with the military to run the country.

The spokesman said Gen Prayut, also chairman of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), never mentioned anything about this matter, Thai News Agency reports.

Why would they be interested when they control the guns?  they don't rule through mandate they rule through force and you can 'dress that up' however you want but that is a FACT.

A tenuous political solution to a non political problem.  Basic good governance practices are absent in Thailand.

Not enough room in the trough for the extra snouts.

"Shrugs off" -  wonder why that would be?

Thailand is a goat rope no matter who's in charge.   But that's why we love it here.

Doesn't matter what happens. The military and non-elected elite will run this country for decades to come or until there's a revolution. Let's hope it's a people's revolution and not a mass armed uprising.

I do believe that the political parties will form the coalition but not with the military and Dem Party under Ahbisit. It will be PTP and a breakaway group from the Dem Party  with  Bhumjathai, Chartthai Pattana and Puea Pandin.  Military power is declining without the moral authority figure and will not able to force parties to join as they did in 2009. If the coalition parties feel that they are at the position of strength, I will not be surprise that they will hold a referendum and re-write the constitution and take power away from the military. That will be a day of much rejoice.

Only this time there will be no roses for the tanks.
