Hello,

My wife and I recently moved to Bangkok from the USA.  My wife got a teaching job and has a Non Immigrant type B visa and I have a type O visa being her husband.  This post is asking about my Type O visa.  We arrived in Bangkok 06/07/2017 and are approaching time to renew for the first time.

I have not seen many posts about non Thais and Type O visas, but I have one and it is expiring 03/10/2017.  I would like to extend this to 1 year, as I was told by the Los Angeles Thai Consulate this is possible.

What documents do I need to bring?

My wife is working in Thailand but I am not working in Thailand

This is the first extension we will be doing.  I'm sure she will be covered because she has a job and supporting documentation (she just got her work permit), but I am unclear as to what I need in order to renew my Type O to continue living in our condo in BKK with my wife (non Thai).

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you.

You will get a one year extension of stay (visas are not extended) as your wife's dependent at immigration.

Has your wife applied for and obtained an extension of stay based upon working as teacher yet. She will need before you can apply for an extension.

You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy. Immigration will want your marriage certificate legalized. Since the US embassy cannot do it you will do a self certification of it at the embassy. Info is here including a blank "family affidavit". https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/local-resources-of-u-s-citizens/notaries-public/authentication-vital-records/ You will have to make an appoinment for US citiens service to enter compound.

You will need copies of your wife's passport photo page, visa and extension of stay stamp. Immigration may also want supporting doucment for the school of prove your wife is still working for them.

Thank you for the reply.

So I am applying for a 1 year extension of stay and I am saying I am dependent on my wife, is that correct?

My wife has not obtained an extension of stay yet.  The school is getting everything together for her to do so and we were planning on just going together and apply at the same time.

I have our original marriage certificate and can make a copy.  I will look at the link you provided for self certifying the certificate.

We were planning on bringing all documents from my Wife's work just in case they needed proof of employment.  Again, we will be doing this together so hopefully nothing gets missed.

Thank you
