Why not do it earlier since you lose no days if you do it early. The extension starts from the day your permit to stay ends.

You will not be charged for an overstay if you do it on Monday since your permit to stay ends on a day when immigration is closed.

Thanks for the info Ubonjoe. Im doing a dive course that ends on Friday, so it's mainly for convenience that I don't want to go early.

So let me see, you would rather have the possibility of an OVERSTAY on your immigration records than do your extension early.. up to 5 days early... seems like a great idea to me, especially the FINE and OVERSTAY on a permanent record...then again, lucky you, the office is closed the day your visa expires.....wait....what happens if the immigration officer wants something ( some paperwork item ) you did NOT bring to the office with you on Monday?

Last day is ALWAYS a great idea!!

Pay attention to advise from Ubonjoe.

You kinda have to do it early because after it expires it's too late you can't extend it.  If you're still here I think like 24 hours after it expires you would then be considered an overstay and you definitely don't want that.  You gotta make time to go to immigration and get it done early.  Extending a tourist visa is simple anyway.  When it comes to extensions ALWAYS do it early.

As a point of information, on Monday before visiting immigration, he will technically be on overstay. I agree that would only be an issue in practice if he happened to be in conflict with an influential Thai able to have him arrested before his arrival at immigration.

As someone else indicated, leaving the extension until the final moment is not a good idea if there is any alternative. Granting of the extension, although usually automatic, is technically up to the discretion of immigration. If for some reason (perhaps him saying something the officials found objectionable) his extension application was denied, he would have no time to make other arrangements. Since he would be already on overstay, really vindictive officials could even have him arrested, deported, and blacklisted from Thailand for 5 years. Obviously, all this is highly unlikely, but why take unnecessary risks?

why all the scaremongering .......he is entitled to apply on the Monday, so as long as he has all the correct documentation there will be no problem. Why would anyone presume he might have upset some Thai hi-so, why would anyone presume the IO might be difficult......why all the negative all the time........a lot of people here must live a miserable life in Thailand with their glass half empty attitude.

I am not assuming the worst case. I am saying there is an extremely low chance the worst case might happen and, when possible without undue difficulty, it is wise to avoid the possibility, however remote, that the worst case scenario could transpire. For the same reason, I do not shelter under trees in a thunderstorm. The chance of the tree being struck by lightening is remote, but some people are struck by lightening.

Yes scaremongering there is zero chance of anything as his visa runs out on a sunday technically that means monday so he has nothing to worry about.

Personaly i always do my visa buisness on the last day have done for years. STILL here no overstay stamp no problem.

The OP has given what i belive to be a valid reason. Yes he could have gone the week before any time in the last 14 days but how many people know the rules he states hes on a TV and first post come on give him a break.

Immigration will do the extension after the date the permit to stay ends. The will even do them with a few days of overstay.

I definitely would not take that chance personally unless I ended up in the hospital or something.  I like having mine done as early as possible.  I didn't know that they'd actually extend your stay after your current extension expires.  That doesn't make sense to me if your current extension is expired I don't understand how they could give you a new one.  I sure wouldn't take that risk.  If it was just a tourist visa or something than okay maybe but not a non-o.
