Non immigrant ED visa to tourist visa

Featured Replies

At the end of October my non immigrant ED visa will expire and I won't be able to extend it for another 3 months,  because I'm not in college then anymore.

However I would like to stay in Thailand till the end of December,  so I guess I should apply for a tourist visa before my ED visa expires.  Can I just apply for a tourist visa at the immigration while I have my student visa?  Or do I need to get out of Thailand and get back again to apply for a tourist visa?

Edit: Reason that I can't apply for extension of student visa in October is,  because the university had to cancel my student visa due to some circumstances (still on good terms with the university though)

You cannot apply for a tourist visa at immigration. You can only apply for one at a Thai embassy or consulate.

There are nearby embassies and consulates where you apply for one.

I guess I need to go to the embassy of my own country then,  right?  So it's possible to get the tourist visa while being in Thailand?

You can only get a tourist visa at a Thai embassy or consulate in another country.

The is a Thai embassy and consulate in Laos. There is a Thai embassy and 2 consulates in Malaysia. You can get a tourist visa at any of them.

What is your nationality. Those from some countries whose citizens can and only apply for Thai visas there.

Thank you for the information,

I'm from the Netherlands,  will I be needing proof a return ticket then also?  Because I don't have a return ticket to the Netherlands yet.

Whether you need a ticket out of the the country (a return to your home country is not required) or not depends upon where you apply.

You can get a single entry tourist visa at the consular section of the Thai embassy in Vientiane Laos without a ticket out or financial proof.

Savannakhet Laos and Penang Malaysia will want a ticket out of the country (a one way ticket to anywhere will be accepted) and proof of at least 20k baht in a bank account.
