Nongprue removes illegal signs

PATTAYA:--Nongprue workers removed illegal signs blocking views for motorists.

A team of three workers swooped down on the area around Soi Nong Mai Kaen 6 Sept. 15, pulling down signs placed on utility poles, at curves in the road and at intersections. They also yanked signs on which taxes had not been paid.

Workers said the order to remove the advertising came after repeated complaints from motorists that they were obstructing views on corners and curves, causing traffic hazards.

The workers continued on their route all the way to Sutthawat Temple.

Okay. So if it takes "a team of three Nongprue workers" [sic] to remove an illegal road sign, how many does it take to change a light bulb, please?

There is in fact only one person needed for removing the sign but another is the driver and - most important - one to take pictures.

and where are the uniforms? An operation like this usually involves up to a 100 cops all jostling to get their photo in the newspaper to show that they're real cops doing real work.

This will improve safety on the the roads by 10 fold

good job  :stoner:

How about some fines for firms that paid to put up those sign? Should be a sure money maker

The ones blocking footpaths for pedestrians should go too.The advertisers should be billed for their removal.

This is so so Thai ;it takes complaints, in other words after the fact, to get something highlighted ;there is little to absolutely no thought put in before the sign was erected

A picture of a removed sign because tax wasn't paid.

A sign blocking the view of speeding traffic down the hill on Sukhumvit near Bang Saray kept mysteriously falling down but only during the hours of darkness.  Local police are baffled, so I'm told.

What about all the big video displays distracting motorists in major crossings. Can only assume that that someone in power is collecting a lot of brown envelopes to allow this.
