Authorities called in after family claim they were victimized in a witch hunt

A story of the supernatural and superstitious villagers was reported by Daily News.

A family of nine in the north eastern province of Mahasarakham said they were being harassed by villagers after a spirit medium arrived and said that a woman in the family was an ogress or Phee Phop in Thai.

The medium organized a noisy exorcism at their house that caused considerable distress to the family who said they had nothing to do with evil spirits.

Following the exorcism the family claimed they were still being treated as though they were responsible for deaths that had occurred to two people from the area in another province.

They called in the local district chief of the Cheun Chom area who arrived with his deputies and soldiers to try sort out the problem and reason with the superstitious neighbors.

They used their authority to convince other villagers that the family were not responsible for the misfortunes in the village.

The family said they had been to the police but did not want to file charges as that would only make matters worse.

They just wanted everyone to know that the woman in the family was not possessed and the family was not harboring a any ogres and ogresses.

Incredible that this still exists. It´s not the police that should be taking care of this. Here the people is in real big help of professional psychotherapeuts. :cheesy:

I agree idiots who believe in silly supernatural spirits like ghosts, God, Allah, Jesus, pink unicorns etc. shouldn't be allowed to vote.

The facts that you call people idiots  because of their spiritual and religious beliefs is exactly why they should exercise their right to vote.

If only the well off would allow them to vote. ?

I see a few stupid people commenting on other people's religious beliefs. What's their faith has to do with voting right . ?!?

Just because you don't believe in any religion or God doesn't give you the right to insult or hurt others feelings

My intention was to point out that often expats on forums (not specifically pointing at jollyhangmon) self righteously belittle Thais for their belief in ghosts yet profess to believe in God, Allah, Jesus (or the fat bald guy I shall not name since this is a Thai forum). There is no difference between belief in a god or a ghost both are silly IMHO so unless everyone in Thai Visa forum is an atheist  they shouldn't belittle Thais for their belief in spirits.

These are the same villages that most foreigners come here to marry..

Back in the old country, if you were over 18 and still believed in Santa Claus, you wouldn't be able to get a fishing license...

Here you get to vote, drive, have children...

So...hitting children in school is okay, but calling out backwards morons for idiotic believes in ogres and harrassing other people, is not!?

Got it!

You have a weird set of rules for your life!

I'm assuming your old country is monotheistic. Whats the difference in believing in Santa Claus, Ghosts or God?  Is God real because more people believe in him?

I have the feeling, you didn't catch my drift...
