NYC Mayor Adams, a man not known for his honesty, was referring to asylum seekers. You know, people who supported the US military in Afghanistan and now are fleeing for their lives, or the people in Central America fleeing the gang wars financed with US drug money and fought with US guns. Go to a few commercial produce farmers and ask them why they're cheap ass employers who won't pay a decent wage to U.S. citizens to pick they're crops. Or perhaps you're willing to do long days of stoop labor on hot summer days yourself. That would be one less job for immigrants. Go to any disaster area and count the number of Spanish speakers doing clean-up and rebuilding/repairing homes and businesses, without anyone asking them they're immigration status. Go to any restaurant owners and ask what paying the wages and offering the benefits necessary to attract U.S. citizens would do to their costs and chances of staying in business. Go to any high-tech industry or big bucks professional sport business and ask what hiring only U.S. citizens would do to their competitiveness. Look at our rapidly increasing deficit, which will grow even faster with Trump's unnecessary war, and ask how a shrinking population and growing retiree population will affect our ability to pay our debt. Best of all, ask all the U.S. females of child-bearing age why they aren't having more babies to reverse the population decline of native born Americans. I prefer open borders to immigrant scapegoating and ICE madness. However the best solution by far would be a massive overhaul of our immigration laws, making it easier for law abiding immigrants to come to the U.S., work, pay taxes, then go home with their hard earned money secure in the knowledge that they can return during the next harvest/tourist season/disaster response etc. That's not going to happen with MAGA world having too much fun fear-mongering and scapegoating. Regarding Trump "draining the swamp"; you really haven't been paying attention. Trump is the swamp master, letting his idiot sons rake in hundreds of millions in "investments" (bribes) from countries trying to purchase U.S. policies that benefit them.
