Trump expecting Thai election in 2018

United States President Donald Trump has hailed Thailand’s commitment to a roadmap that would see free and fair elections held in 2018, according to a joint statement issued by the two countries following Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s visit to the White House.

The statement said President Trump welcomed the commitment to the roadmap, which upon implementation of relevant organic laws as stipulated in the Constitution, would lead to free and fair elections in 2018.

General Prayut had assured Trump during their meeting at the White House on Tuesday that an election date would be announced next year, with the election to follow within 150 days, as stipulated in the charter.

Prayut said he raised the subject without prompting from Trump.

The Thai premier led a delegation to Washington that included Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak and top-level economic officials. They are spending three days in the US and meeting other senior state and business officials.

Tuesday’s meeting between Prayut and Trump in the Oval Office signalled the revitalisation of Thai-US relations following a chilled period resulting from the 2014 coup led by Prayut.

The US visit also saw several new deals announced.

Someone needs to inform Trump not to hold his breath on this one.  Thai have a habit of lying through their teeth, saying one thing, but doing another.

Hun Sen has also announced an election and the winner as well ! Hun Sen has warned of civil war if the CPP lose an election. I think Donald has already forgot about Thailands election more importan items on his agenda

Trump need to speak to Prawit before making that statement.

He already has a string of expectations that turned out to be delusions. Just put it on the list Donald.

I think he is in for a disappointment

Got f*** all to do with Trump!

Trump needs to learn some good manners before inviting leaders of other countries. I can't be bothered about his agenda and bet mr Prayuth also felt passed by his stupid talks.

Prawit already confirmed the election date. It will be the 31st of June next year.

Here here.

I'm sure Trump doesn't care.

The only 2018 elections that the clown potus really cares about are the 2018 USA midterm elections, already named the IMPEACHMENT election.

Seriously, on his priorities list, whether Thailand holds a watered down election or not in 2018 or 2030, is level bupkis.

He is the elected president of the USA, please don't troll here, and show  him some respect.

Thats the date reserved for a tribunal to charge him for treason and human right abuses. On that same day, he and his fellow generals will donate all their ill gotten wealth to charity.

He was elected to the most powerful position on earth, mostly by his own effort and against the intent of many in his own party. Whether you like him or not, he wont be overthrown by a military coup and he has certainly achieved more than you will do in your lifetime, if not achieve daily what you will achieve in your lifelime.

Your opinion about Trump is as worthless as your comparative contribution to this world and will probably be best remembeted as just as a keyboard warrior. Im sure Trump, if he knew your situation, would offer you some pity and maybe also some advice on how to actually achieve something in life.

Ahem, Prayut didn't actually say there would be an election 2018.

He said he would anounce the date of the next election with elections following 150 days afterwards.

So the anouncement will be 20--.

And 150 days after will be 20--.

????

Is that clear ????

Because the USA has Democracy and if you can't accept defeat it makes a farce of the whole process. Write yourself a new Constitution.

Yeah, it's pretty clear.

The constitution is clear. There is no requirement to respect a criminally corrupt president. Accepting he won is a totally different thing. Don't conflate them.

I agree that the USA is a democracy. A very FLAWED one.

Thailand isn't even that. Maybe someday ... but just having elections won't make it so.

On a public forum you should have the decency to respect other's views. You show utter disrespect to Trump supporters.

Total deflection. Pathetic.

I refuse to be baited there as you wish.

People have the right to express support for the clown potus, whether I respect that or not is irrelevant.

Thanks for acknowledging there is no constitutional requirement to respect any president.

I acknowledged nothing. I'm going to do dome gardening -  that's good for relieving resentments in case you feel the need.

Anyway, have the last word as usual and enjoy your bid for 100,000 posts. Ever thought of twitter, your audience would be larger?

And no need for the insults. That just show lack of manners/education.

Trump also thinks the moon is made of Blue Cheese!

Your reply makes absolutely no sense but I expected as much. The man-child won the election but I respect him (and his core voters) as much as I respect the next lying, self obsessed, pu**y grabbing POS.

You're talking about lack of manners in a post about the super troll in chief that got elected with gutter mouth insults and racist dog whistles?

That's rich.

Like the rest of us.... Trump can carry on "expecting".

It is quite possible that elections will be held next year, everything now seems to almost be in place to ensure that the "election" achieves the result the current ptb want.
