Khon Kaen Immigration Office - Well Done

Recommended Posts

Yesterday ( Weds 5th Oct 2017 ) I went to do a 90 day top up on my Retirement Visa.

Very quiet at the office, more people waiting at the 90 day for Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam top ups than the other counter in the main office.

No camera photo taken at the desk and top up completed in about ten minutes.

My one year report to request to renew my Retirement visa is due early December, not my first such visa.

The lady at the desk then explained very carefully that I must renew before the final date on the visa and,

that it cannot be done within 5 days afterwards as with 90 day top ups.

Explaining that to report on the last day or a few days after would be an "overstay" and I could be fined etc.

She wrote down ( on the back of my passport copy ) every document I need to bring with me etc. etc. and again

strongly reiterated to come anytime before the 7th, the last day of my visa.

Perhaps they are tightening up ?

Well done that lady for being so polite and helpful.

You cannot renew a "retirement visa".

In fact you do not have a "retirement visa"

You have a 12 month extension of stay.

You will be applying for another 12 months next time.

You can apply up to 45 days before your current permision expires.

90 day reports are a totally different thing.

You can report up to 15 days before and 7 days after.

"I recently had to have a friend do my 90 day report having just come out of hospital.

My next 90 day is due early October and my new application for extension of stay ( retirement ) is due 7th December.

My deposit of 800K remains in the bank.

My friend was told by counter staff at Khon Kaen Immigration that, I should apply for extension of stay in October instead of 90 day report

as, new regulations are coming in to force.

Has anyone else had this recommendation ?

Does anyone know of any new regulations that will be set before the end of the year ?"

Well thats nothing like your other post i have quoted above completley diffrent wording.

So nothing new. Wont bother asking now

Go back and read the last post in that topic. It was posted in error and has now been closed.

Thank you for pointing that out but yes I know it is called an extension of stay, I have lived here for many years.

Many people refer to it as a retirement visa because that is what the stamp says.

My posting was to show that I appreciated the helpfulness of immigration staff.

Did my retirement extension on Sep 27.

Arrived about 9:30h.

Waiting area empty.

Three desks open.

Only one busy.

Guess it was the same lady (she waived after finishing her smartphone job).

She explained everything with great love to detail.

I didn't want to discourage her by saying I know it all, it's my 6th extension

As a side-job also done 90 day report.

Next report is a Christmas present, Dec 25.

Out in about 20 min.

And I was prepared to sit until noon.

The upside of low season

There is no such thing as a retirement VISA and I can assure you there is no such thing as a retirement VISA stamp.

RETIREMENT is usually stamped over your extension of permission to stay on the grounds of retirement, not on any

VISA.
