Paying AIS on their app with a Foreign Credit Card

Featured Replies

For many years I paid AIS on their app with my foreign VISA credit card. Suddenly I get error messages. I have changed credit card, and it is the same. For several days AIS says they are looking into it, but no remedy. I checked with the bank, and they do not show an Attempt being made from AIS. Any ideas? Their latest excuse is there is a gateway issue, please wait. 🙏

You aren't able to pay using app QR code? that's what i do

As you have a Thai phone number and have been paying for many year, I will assume you are staying in Thailand. That would normally mean you have a Thai bank account as well. As a foreigner you need money in Thailand to live here. So, why don´t solve it the easy way, and pay with your Thai bank card, and wait until they solve the problem or if not, continue to pay though the Thai card. I am pretty sure, that no one here can answer what is wrong with your card, bank or AIS payment processing.

Anyway, Tommi! Problem solved 🙂

Not necessarily true!

I also have a Thai number held since the 1980s, yet I live in UK.

Last year, I updated the SIM for my new Thai phone - I visited AIS in Pattaya with my passport and they gave me a new SIM.

When in Thailand I top up my SIM either in a convenience store or at one of those orange machines outside the stores.

I've always topped my SIM up before leaving Thailand so that I have a year's worth of credit. (keep on adding 10 Baht and getting 30 days extra each time!)

During Covid when I didn't visit Thailand, I topped it up using Ding https://www.ding.com/ who accept UK Credit / Debit cards, but charge a service charge.

I was thinking of trying exactly what the OP wants to do (or is doing) and I might try my Pre-paid Debit MasterCard so I can use the same system in UK and Thailand although my current methods do work.

So the question is relevant to me too.

@Tommi Gunner when you say "AIS on their app", do you mean the "myAIS" app?

Would you post here again if you get a resolution please.

UPDATE TO MY POST ABOVE

I said "I might try my Pre-paid Debit MasterCard"

Tried it - it worked 👌

Topped up 50 Baht on "myAIS" app, appeared on my UK card as £1.18 - an acceptable exchange rate of 42.37

It extended my credit by 30 days.

One small caveat - as I hadn't done this before, the card sent an OTP to my UK phone which is my card's registered number.

The app offered to save my card details - I declined so if I did it in Thailand, I'd have to ensure my UK phone was also switched on to get another OTP- no big deal.

Any help @Tommi Gunner ?

No not necessary? Where did I say that? However, most that pay many years for a Thai phone number are staying here or living half year at the time in Thailand. Therefore, I assumed he was staying in Thailand. Was it something there, that was hard for you to understand, Ralf?

Never said it was. Therefore, I assumed. It´s a difference when using the word assumed, instead of stating that someone lives in Thailand.

Then why assume in the first place?

More sensible to suggest he might be living in Thailand than assume he is.

I personally know 4 people who keep Thai phone numbers active between visits, and there may possibly be many others.

Please don't try to teach me my native language at which I excel (not troubled by modesty either!)

I just had the same issue last month after several months with no problem. Turns out an update to the AIS app was required. I discovered this by accident. So on the App store I updated the App and then payment was processed without any further problem. I never saw any message in English stating that an update was necessary.

I was able to use my foreign CC once or twice; after that, it wouldn't process. I went to the AIS store, and they just shrugged and said I could pay in cash. I paid for the full year in cash. They just debit the monthly bill from the lump sum and send me an invoice monthly via the app and a text. The same process for my internet service. I am here on an ED visa, and it runs out at the same time as my cell and internet service. I use Lazada to pay my PEA bill and Wise to pay my water bill. BTW, I got a discount from AIS for paying the year up front.

Can't you top up through your Thai Bank app?

I presume that using the term App Store indicates you have an iPhone (?)

Doesn't Apple update your Apps automatically? I have Android phones and they certainly do via the Play Store.

Perhaps a setting on the phone needs to be changed?

So far, the OP hasn't returned to the thread, so I believe we're unclear as to whether he's permanently in Thailand or a visitor or whether he has a Thai bank account. (The OP refers to a "Foreign VISA credit card.")

My point is that does anyone not permanently in Thailand and/or a Thai bank account holder use Promptpay?

I don't know if this is relevant or not. Anyway for info: I have an AIS pre-paid account with a Thai number. 200 baht a month. I top up with a Mastercard CC every few months including when I'm not in country.

It suddenly stopped allowing me to log in saying it detected a VPN (which wasn't connected). But my 'Safe-Web' scanner was active. De-activated Safe-Web and could log-in top-up without problems.

Just saying it might be phone/virus settings?

haven’t tried it in years, though just looked and it’s still there.

Are you using the myAIS app on the phone and entering the card number in it?

I ask because you mention logging in and the app stays logged in permanently unless you actually switch the phone off for long periods of time.

Also, I don't think AIS has a website any more (since 2022) where you can see your phone's status.

Yes, I use the app which stays logged in of course but denied me access till I'd cleared the scanner away which for its part it detected as malignant 555

I#ve always used the app, never the website ...

I see. So it appears that the scanner is the villain of the piece in this instance- odd

I presume you mean https://safeweb.norton.com/ ??

I have a Norton 360 subscription which includes SafeWeb but it's never interfered with that App.

In any event you appear to have it sorted so all's well.

I've topped up my prepaid AIS SIM online with my UK credit and debit cards via the following link:

https://www.ais.th/en/consumers/package/prepaid/top-ups

For me, much easier and more straightforward than faffing around with the MyAIS app!

Thanks for that - OOI if you already have the App is it any easier than what I did - see my 2 posts above from August 5th?

I fully understand that if you have to install the App first, then your way might indeed involve less "faff" but I went through the link you provided but backed out before I actually provided a card number, and can see little difference.

Just curious.
