Six Thais stopped from boarding for South Korea in sex work crackdown

The Labor Ministry stated yesterday that they are stepping up measures to ensure than Thais do not go to work illegally in South Korea.

The government has been under pressure from Korean authorities recently to stop people travelling who do not have the proper documentation. There are thought to be thousands of Thais working illegally in the country.

And selling sex is top of the agenda.

Woranon Peetiwan told Voice TV that six Thais were denied boarding at Suvarnabhumi yesterday after they admitted that they had contacted an online website offering work in South Korea.

They were going to work in the "massage and farming" sectors.

The people were warned about their behavior and told to go through the correct channels to seek employment in future.

Voice reported that the Thais are particularly keen to crack down on women travelling abroad to sell sex.

I know of a few girls who have been recruited for "massage" work in S Korea and it would appear that there are Thai women recruiters who are organising it from this end.

Some are already in the "industry" here so know what to expect, but others return disillusioned when they are expected to offer extras.

My ex did this.  Normal office girl from Khon Kaen.  We keep in touch and she told me all about it.  She went for 2 months on a tourist visa, came back with 640,000 baht.  I thought she must have added an extra 0 on by mistake but no.  What's more she insisted she never offered any extras and that the men were just really generous.  I'm not so sure I believe the last part, but even if she's lying about that, 640,000 baht is not to be sniffed at when the average Thai would be earning about 40,000 in the same period...  At the end of her employment she spent a week travelling around South Korea before she came back to Thailand.  It's not a bad life really, if you can stomach the extras.

She said the hardest part was getting the money out of Korea and into Thailand.  She didn't want to carry it in cash in case of problems with immigration, so she sent it by bank.  The fees and exchange rates cost her about 10,000 baht because she didn't have a bank account in South Korea.

I know another girl who was doing the same thing in Dubai and other countries in the middle east.

Thais taking advantage of the easy entry 90 day visa waiver to make a few bucks working illegally in South Korea. If this trend continues, Thais will require a visa to enter South Korea. All the middle and upper class professional Thais that like to travel to Korea for pleasure will suffer because of the selfish actions of those that seek to exploit the laws of another country.

They're just going from one piece of land to another to make a better life for themselves, like all the economic migrants from Africa and the refugees from the middle east.  They're circumventing bureaucracy, as you might if you were in their position.

i also know of a girl going to south korea and coming back with about same and she had a tough time getting barfines over here. upon returning promtly bought Tom a new car.  broke went back to do it all again

The money is huge really isn't it, relatively at least.  It's the difference between borderline poverty and the top 5% earners.  Your lifestyle would completely change.  If I was a Thai girl I'd be tempted.

I had three tours in Korea in the Army, and have had many massages - to them, it's just another stiff muscle that needs massaging.  Yes, they are generous in San Kachi district in Seoul, especially if you are a young Thai Masseuse, or a nice friendly Karaoke girl.   A bargirl I know worked 2 years in Korea, until one guy burned her face with a Crack pipe lighter (blow torch) she always bought diamonds with her money to bring back to Thailand, they re-sold them in Bangkok, she has her own massage parlor in Thailand now, so if you see a  mamsan in her Thirties with a burned face in a massage parlor on Soi........., it might be her    :whistling:

New Zealand used to have a 90 day visa exempt arrangement with Thailand till some mongrels stuffed it up by bringing in Thai girls to work in massage parlours. Once NZ banned Thai's entering on visa exempt entries the Thais reciprocated and that was the end of a really great perk for NZers.

The headline and article are slightly misleading.

Sure there will be a small percentage doing the sex work game, and that makes the headlines, but the largest majority by far are going over there and involved in the agriculture sector. Generally on Korean small holder farms, 2-3-4 man (woman) teams, and still earning very good money compared to here.

Short time pays 3500 baht in Korea which is hard to resist.

Some girls are asking close to that now in Thailand...or at least on Thaifriendly..... not sure they are getting though, certainly not from me.

depends what you look like and how desperate they are, doesn't it.

I met some girls working massage in clapham.one of their mums owned a Thai restaurant/ supermarket in earlsfield. They charge 50 quid a hour. Thailand say 300 baht an hour? No extras. Nice bunch of girls. I know the story is focusing on knock in shops but there's plenty of girls making decent money that would slap you if you suggested extras. Trust me. I tried 5555
