Help! I'm confused. I got a 60 day visa before leaving the states. After being in Thailand only a week i went to Lao. Now my departure card says i can only be here until Feb 8, whereas the 60 day said i could be here til March! I am wanting to stay in Thailand until Feb 15, then go to Lao and return to fly back to the US from Bangkok.

Questions:

Is my 60 day visa now null and void? (i think it's only a single entry visa, so i guess it is...)

Can i get a 7 day extension (ie: in Ko Samui), then go and Lao for a week or two and still be allowed back in for a 3rd time? Will i have to get a new visa? Does it make a difference if i fly or go overland out of the country and bakc?

I'm confused about whether you can go in and out of Thaliand as many times as you want, and how many visas are required. I don't want to get stuck!

Thanks for any assistance anyone can offer!

Sure you can enter and leave thailand (while on a visa) as many times as you want as LONG as you have a mulitple re-entry permit.

Sure you can get a visa for 60 days and leave and return and still keep your visa dates as LONG AS you get a re-entry permit.

My guess is you did not get a re-entry permit before you left for Laos and so on re-entering the Kingdom, you were given a 30 day visa upon arrival.

So yes the 60days is now null and void.

As for your other questions, someone else will have to advice.

My guess is as you no longer have a visa, you can get an extension at immigration (in bangkok for sure) for only 7 days for a fee of course. If you still had your visa you could have had it extended for 30 days.

At this point you can go to Laos (land or plane) and re-enter thailand for the 2nd time with a 30 day stamp and then leave. You just can't have more than 3, 30 day stamps.

In reality, you did not need a visa to enter thailand from the US, but since you wanted to stay for longer than 30days then yes you sort of did.

Unless you have time in Thailand on a visa free entry after Oct 1 that you have not mentioned there is no problem with leaving to Laos. You will receive another 30 day permitted to stay on your return. The new rule only allows 90 days using this method but you are no way near to that point.
