basjke
Which new dvd format will be the future standard?I'm thinking about buying a new game console either xbox 360 or playstation 3.My first choice would go to the playstation however I consider the xbox also a good machine for the games I mostly play(race games). But because of the high price and the limit use I will have from the consoles it would be a positive point to use it as a dvd player as well because in the near future will need a dvd player also.Only if hd-dvd will be the standard a playstation will be to no function for dvd's.So considering the new dvd standard which console will be the best choice. cdnvic
360 with the add-on HD-DVD player is the better deal right now. As for future standard, it may be a moot point now as LG just launched a player that plays both formats.
percy2
Buy whatever console you prefer for games. Forget the DVD part. Shortly there will be DVD players utililizing both standards. Cheers
solo siam
I'd second the 360 with the HD-DVD player, its cheaper, the games are currently better, the HD-DVD's are cheaper and its less wear and tear to your main drive. I've got around 8 HD-DVD's and am very impressed, Blu Ray quality is catching up but there are reports of some discs not working on some machines, the first 80 or so films were also generally pretty poor quality (MPEG2) and the media is too expensive. The Chinese are starting to make some HD DVD players now so it won't be long before budget players come out - I wouldn't worry about the film companies, they will follow the public. basjke
I know that there is already a player which plays both standards but my meaning was to reduce the cost of the game console because I don't play many games by not need to buy an extra dvd player. The only point is if I buy a playstation and hd-dvd gets the standard then this isn't so.So I just wanted to know your opinion about which will be the standard. cdnvic
I don't see either side abandoning their formats anytime soon. My money would be on HD-DVD if any. Dual format disks are on the way that will play in either player.
Simmo
I'm gonna wait it out till this time next year * Wait for 1080p HDTV set to come down in price. * Wait for HD-DVD players to become mass market and price drops. * Any plans for HDTV in Thailand announced (unlikely). * See which console gets the "must have" games or movie download services.
