Yet Another Stupid Visa Question...

Featured Replies

I made a two day stopover in BKK on my way down to Malaysia in November, and another two day stopover a week later in early December. That earned me two entry and exit stamps altogether (30 day tourist visa on arrival).

I'll be back for a weekend in BKK at the end of this month before heading to Myanmar, and then spending another weekend in the city on my way back home.

Same story in March/April...only going to the Philippines that time.

Altogether that's 6 entries within about 4 months, yet altogether not even spending two weeks in Thailand.

Is this going to be a problem? I heard so many different versions of the same story as far as the new tourist visa regulations are concerned.

One version was that one just doesn't get more than three entry stamps for those 30 day visas within the timespan of half a year, no matter if one is staying just a few days each time or actually staying in country for 90 consecutive days with two obligatory visa runs in between.

The other version was that it's perfectly okay as long as one is not spending more than 90 days altogether within the timespan of 6 months...

What is it now? Please give me some peace of mind. It's two weeks until my trip now and if I was mistaken I should really get into gears and head to the Thai embassy in town to get this settled in advance!!!

Thanks

Whoever told you this is the correct one, number of entries is not important

Ok, great! Thanks! Then I cannot quite see why on some other threads on this forum people have been mentioning that the new visa rules have deterred frequent weekend visitors from places like Singapore. Even if one lived in e.g. Singapore, and went to Thailand every single weekend for, let's say, three days, one still wouldn't exceed 90 days within 6 months. What's the deal with that?

I think you misunderstood the posts you read.

The Government is trying to deter people who lived here on a continuous basis and

were doing monthly, 1 day visa hops across the border.

Nothing to do with folks who live outside Thailand.

Naka.
