Mourners bid final farewell to beloved King Bhumibol at 11 pm

At 11 pm Thursday night, mourners wept and prostrated themselves to the direction of the Royal Crematorium to show their final respects and last farewell to their beloved His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Amid beating drums, the whistle of an ancient flute and an artillery salute, Thailand began a lavish and elaborate ceremony on Thursday steeped in ancient rites for the funeral and cremation of revered late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Sweden honours the late Thai monarch

Sweden yesterday held a ceremony to honour HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who received the Knight of the Swedish Royal Order of the Seraphim on April 5, 1950. The order is the foremost honour in Sweden.

People throughout the Kingdom, and around the world, have celebrated and commemorated his life in a variety of ways. Ceremonies that have been practised until perfect are helping convey the gravity of the moment, while helping the nation begin to move forward.

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej will always be remembered as one of Thailand’s greatest “development kings”. His efforts in this crucial area were best exemplified by the many royal projects implemented soon after his ascension to the throne in 1946.
