Germany has given $40 million to Cambodia for health, rural development and governance projects this year and next. The grant was formalised yesterday at signing ceremony involving senior minister and vice chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia Chin Bun Sean and German Ambassador Ingo Karsten.

The agreements cover aid for financial and technical cooperation projects. They will focus on rural infrastructure, health equity and improvements to health services, decentralisation and administrative reforms, social health protection and local economic development.

Other targets of the aid include projects to boost local economies, job creation and diversification, as well as sustainable integration in the Asean business programme by providing rural production systems, funding for studies and experts. The council said: “The continued development of this great cooperation will be an important thing for strengthening and expanding friendship and diplomacy between Cambodia and Germany as well as to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries this year.”
